Seen a lot of queries regarding ac3 encoding. Heres how:

I am using a Sky+ satellite set box to record DD movies onto dvd.

I use a Trust 514DX 5.1 Soundcard which has both optical and coax in/out.Cost around £30. in UK from Maplins.

Input the data from your digital source making sure it is set to bitstream dolby digital . Sky box sends out bitstream via optical, but goto settings and make sure optical out settings are set to dolby digital.

Set the mixer settings for the card to spdif in , 6ch speakers, monitor audio on and leave the valid audio button unchecked.

Using Wavelab set the audio to 16bit stereo PCM wav at 48k and capture the audio.

Once captured run Besplit with the DDwav type and Fix settings as shown in the BeSweet pages.

You should now have a AC3 file that will playback in any audio player media player etc. Obviously only in stereo.

Edit and encode the video as required and then mux the audio and video together into a valid mpeg2 file suitable for DVD.

Now author dvd in any program that accepts AC3 6ch audio files and burn DVD.TMPGenc dvd author, sonic dvdit PE etc accept ac3.

This will also work for 2ch DD but input a pcm signal rather than bitstream.
