I want to know which is better in terms of quality, who has the lowest file size, and how compatible is it for editing, playing in consoles, quality of audio, if is even a standard etc.

I have a friend that constantly tell me that the way to go is for WMK because it has low space requirements and the quality is ok, I say that is an uncompatible codec and can't be that simple to do, after all I have to go through like 12 programs to get the quality of SVCD, besides I say there is no dvd player for that, he said there is one coming out that will support it, I said well that's not fair for the quality industry, that sort of things are like wmv and those streaming mediocre quality media that just focus on getting the job done and not on the finest quality possible, I say well if you ever got a problem using wmk don't even think to ask me anything cuz that's not the way to go for me. What do you think?

silly question but.... what the hell is WMK ?

as for the rest well you have answered some of your own questions i would think.

besides I say there is no dvd player for that, he said there is one coming out that will support it
do you want to play your films now and in the future on your current and future hardware or just be able to play on maybe your pc and a possible player in the future(which you dont even know how much it wil cost etc etc etc) ?

I say well if you ever got a problem using wmk don't even think to ask me anything cuz that's not the way to go for me
you seem to have even made up your mind already. :D

What do you think?
i think you should do what you find best with the type of results(quality, ease, etc) for you. if someone wants to do something else then thats up to them.

first, yeah I know I made up my mind in quite a few things but I want you or anybody to correct me if I'm wrong up the point I am saying what I believe, 2nd don't tell me you support those guys? man I also told him that those people that look for programs to do all in one solution with the click of a button don't even know how to turn their computers ON and I'm right!, they simply don't want to learn they just want to have the video in their hands and watch it at whatever acceptable quality they may get and then they claim that they can' do more!??? like adding chapters etc, I don't like easy things period, does anyone agree with me on this?

So, what kind of codec is WMK (I take it you are not confused with Windows Movie Maker)? Googling around gives no info. That's not very promising :)

I also told him that those people that look for programs to do all in one solution with the click of a button don't even know how to turn their computers ON and I'm right
no actually you are wrong.

they simply don't want to learn they just want to have the video in their hands and watch it at whatever acceptable quality they may get and then they claim that they can' do more
well when i backup my sons dvds i do them to vcd. he can trash the hell out of them then and i can make new ones anytime. now to do that i do not make the best quality i could. why ? because i dont see any need. the backups i make are very watchable and are not made to last so why should i spend a long time at it ?
also why should people have to learn how to use different programs to do each step ? thats archaic and yes i did go through those times. look at some of the modern software mentioned on this very forum, DVD-Rebuilder, DVDShrink, DVDx, DVD2SVCD etc. they have options people can adjust for speed, quality and type of output but they take away much of the "need to learn everything" steps. when learning you can use the defaults but the options also allow some customisation which should encourage people to learn and understand what they are doing. simply saying they are stupid or lazy or whatever is counterproductive and wont convince anyone.

don't tell me you support those guys
so actually i DO support people like jdobbs and dvd2svcd etc for the work they are doing and programs they are producing. i may be slightly biased of course being one of the guys behind DVDx but with the support i see for the other programs i mentioned i would say i am right. :D

Those one click programs are gonna became ilegal and dissapear for good. So is anyone gonna post some experiences with the WMK format and how some people are expecting it to play it on a dvd player without authoring by just burning the single file as data on a cheap cd-r.

first i will repeat what Wilbert and i have both already asked. WHAT THE HELL IS WMK ?

as for your little PM oh yes what a nice little rave that was. i have replied in kind. :)

Those one click programs are gonna became ilegal and dissapear for good.
wow i have seen some big calls but that 1 takes the cake. jdobbs, dvd2svcd, ahead, pinnacle etc etc etc you should all stop wasting your time and stop programming your apps now. you have been told the future now. :sly:

EDIT: Sorry dragongodz, we were typing in the same time :D I don't know yet, my friend told me, he's too sticky into wanting to recorded videos using the least amount of space, you know is probably one of those microsoft video formats that are too compressed.

Are you sure he was not confused with WMV (WMK = Windows Media Kodec with a C)?
