View Full Version : Can You Adjust the Priority of the Apps Used by DVD Rebuilder?

I am a recent convert from DVD2SVCD. With that program, I was able to set the basic program to run at normal priority, but could set all of the programs used by DVD2SVCD to idle priority. This was particularly helpful since I operate the computer I use to rip via remote desktop. Is there a setting I can manually add to the rebuilder.ini file? Otherwise, it would seem like this might make a good addition to future generations of DVD Rebuilder. I found that DVD2AVI and CCE SP run just fine in idle priority and do not take any longer to do their job.

There is not an option in rebuilder.ini but if you set DVD-RB to run at low priority, all CCE encodes will run at low priority too.

Can this be used to make CCE 2.5 go into idle/low priority? Or is there another way to do this?

I investigated djan's idea, and found that priorities for all programs can be changed by using window's task manager. I do not believe that lowering the priority of rebuilder.exe will reduce the priority of CCE. However, the priority of CCE can also be adjusted in the same way.

The only thing I need to investigate is whether each m2v that is encoded during the rebuilding process opens a separate instance of CCE or whether a single instance of CCE remains open for the entire encoding process. The reason this is significant to me is that I start the transcoding process and walk away from the computer, checking it only occasionally via remote desktop from my house. If separate instances of CCE run, you would need to adjust the priority each time a new segment starts encoding. The problem with that, for me, is that I often time-out trying to connect via remote desktop when CCE is running at normal priority. I also run an ftp server on the same computer and it takes forever to log in to the server when CCE is running at normal priority (although file transfers are not effected).

Just use EclCCE. It can set the priority every time CCE runs. Each segment encode uses a new instance of CCE, so it would be difficult to adjust each encode's priority.

Listen to me friends ! Lowering the priority of DVD-RB makes lowering the priority of all CCE encodes, believe me and try it !

I will try it out tonight. As long as I can connect remotely, I will be one happy ripper. Thanks.

djan was right, all apps opened by rebuilder.exe ran in low priority once rebuilder.exe was set to low priority. It worked great. Thanks.
