Hello everybody!

Earlier today I visited Doom9's download page (http://www.doom9.org/index.html?/software.htm) and proceeded to download AACEncoder v2.15 (http://www.doom9.org/Soft21/Audio/aacenc_v215.zip).

However, when I clicked to download the ZIP archive, my PC opened it and displayed all the folders contents  (If you right click and 'Save Target As...' everything works like it did before.)

Has something changed with SP2 or has my PC gone out of wack?

Cheers

WinXP has a ZIP browser built-in, not SP2 related.

The whole ZipFolders DLL has been around since Win98, I think it first came with the Plus pack if I remember correctly, I actually managed to get the DLL's working on Win95 after much trial and error as well.

Thanks guys but that does not answer why WinXP has suddenly started opening up ZIP files... it's very annoying... and pretty scary too!

XP does it by default. So the simple answer is that SP2 reset your XP settings for that feature back to normal.

Open folder options in the control panel. In 'file types' you'll find the zip extention, if you open advanced you'll find an option called 'confirm open after download', if you check that option it will ask you if you'll want to open the file or save it when you click it.

Thanks for that heads-up Bootsy. All is well again now :D

I wonder how it could have changed itself?

The zip support drives me crazy too. Especially when you use Search to find a certain file on your HD and then it also starts searching in zip files, which takes hours and hours. :sly:

Stupid useless Windows XP features...
