Hi everyone,
I have a question that I am sur esome wiz will know how to fix :)

I have a movie that has been encoded with Xvid, I'm not sure what version. If I play it back in ZoomPlayer or BSPlayer or Windows Media Player or Media Player Classic it gets series sorta - the only way to explain it is - smeared blocks - along the picture. It happens for a second or so, and then stops a few seconds, and then starts up again.

However if I watch the movie in VideoLan (VLC) then I have no problems, plays back with no glitches. Seeing as VLC has internal codecs or something I can only assume it's a codec issue.

All other Xvid movies I have playback fine.

Any help?

I think the movie you have there has been encoded with the option
"GMC" activated.

Reinstall the XviD codec (use the latest version) and make sure your
system decodes all XviD content with the XviD decoder.

You may also download ffdshow (make a search on google) and install
it. Should fix the problem, too.

Could be an old (too old for a bitstream version) buggy encode. Had a similar problem with an old non mod 16 encode that I came across, adding a userdata tag of XviD0001 solved the problem.

So what is the res of your file? Does it uses GMC? Does it contain a bitstream version?

actually, I use v1.0.1 keopi, and I cannot playback xvid with any player except nero showtime, unless, I use the divx decoder. ffdshow and the xvid decoder both crash when video is started. at first I thought it might be due to my custom matrix, but then I encoded a clip with the mpeg and h263 matrices and the same thing happened. I am using xp sp2, I will almost bet money that it is the problem.
