Clean up in what way? I don't see any doubles, and most things in that list come standard with popular players (you got huge Nero list, CyberLink, etc.) so onece you reinstall Windows/Sotware you'll get exact same thing.

I don't see anything that could be done there, nor do I think it's neccessory to do anything as they all seem useful at some point in general use (you are, after all, an enthusiast).

btw, what gave you that list?

I see windows media video codec and video renderer listed 2x.

Might not be doubles, though.

But there are multiple decoders for MP3, MPEG 1/2/4, AC3, AAC etc. in this list...

Gah, I dont know which to keep or raise/lower the merit !!!

Btw, ZoomPlayer's filter manager gave me this list... ;)

Wow, I've never seen a list that big! Are you having any kinds of conflicts or problems? If not, I think it's best just to leave it alone. (If it ain't broke, don't fix it.)

Nearly everything works right !!!

Exception...

Some mp4 files play without sound n' crash the player after some seconds !!!

Only Ffdshow and Nero DVD Decoder are used, but no decoder for AAC...

Btw, with Nero's showtime player this files work perfectly !!!

Bizarrely Mpeg4/AAC in MP4 works in WMP9. Have you tried this?

Hmm, WMP9 crashes for me as well... :(

Btw, MPC throws this here...

Do you have the latest version of NVE installed?

ffdshow is audio decoder too, it can decode AAC... perhaps you should disable that part. (start-->programs-->ffdshow--->audio filter configuration)

RealMedia plays AAC too. And may sometimes tries to connect (as seen in the new Gspot beta).

I tried getting MPC to play MP4 files on a brand new install with just WinXP SP2, NVE and MPC installed and Nero's audio filter would not connect in MPC.... WMP9 worked okay though!

EDIT: bobololo is aware of the problem!

Ffdshows AAC decoding was already disabled...

IMO it has to do with the mp4 splitter/handler (whatever) !!!

If I unregister Nero's DVD Decoder and use the Dicas decoders, everything works...

But Dicas is used for video decoding then as well !!!

If I unregister Dicas MPEG4 video decoder, I get only audio playback... :(

Maybe it fails to "give" the video stream to ffdshow ???

EDIT:

Btw, MPEG4 video in AVI is still decoded by ffdshow !!!

Only MPEG4 video in MP4 is decoded by Dicas...

MPEG4... what an interoperable mess

i guess you already enabled all mpeg4 decoding options in ffdshow?

I would not worry about it. I'm sure Nero will fix it soon!

If you remember, not so long ago Nero's audio filter would not work with WMP9 and before that even the video filter was unstable.

Thats the only reason why I still use the good old AVI container...

But as I can use ffdshows raw processing I will use Dicas as compromise !!!

Btw, is it normal that I cant use seeking with Dicas decoder ???

At this moment in time, if you want .mp4 to work in all your direct-show players, you are going to have to install the 3ivx filter suite!

EDIT: Or you could buy an Sigma Xcard :D of course.

When I open SysEnum (the tool that comes with Graphedit) I also see hundreds of Directshow filters listed (even here on my dad's computer where there's usually less stuff installed than on my own)

I only see a problem with all those filters as soon as one of them grabs the playback for certain files when I don't want it. For example I had a problem with some Ligos Decoder that was suddenly playing back DV avi by default - but it's plainly a very bad playback filter for DV avi...

If everything plays back fine with the filters you like, why would you care how many others are installed? However, if it doesn't, it's usually a good idea to disable the "bad" filters using "regsvr32 -u"
