Hi everybody!

I'm creating a double layer project in Scenarist. Having chosen the "double layer", Scenarist prompts me to choose the "opposite" or "parallel" reading type. Actually I don't really know how double layer disk is scanned by DVD-Player, so for not to spoil double layer blank media, enlighten me in this if you please-)

Everybody, thanx in advance-)

Well, the disc is being read from the inside(the hole) to outside. So imagine the two layers one over the other. If u choose parallel, it means that when it finishes reading the inside layer(LAYER 0), it will go back to the inside and start reading again to the outside.
If you choose oposite then it will start reading from outside to the inside which automatically means less seeking time and its the way 99% of DVD9's are made.BUT you must keep in mind that Layer0 MUST be larger that Layer1. Hope it helps!

That's a great help, thanx very much!!

So, according to 99% of DVD-9 manufacturing with opposite path track I'll make a setup of opposite tracking. To prevent layer 1 over layer 0 in size I can set a layer break point in Scenarist (as far as I know this feature exists), is that right?

Maybe you can explain me how to set a layer break point?

To set a layer break, u must first insert a chapter point (you can remove it from the chapters list afterwards if u dont want it to be seen as a chapter during playback)and in the scenario editor, sort tracks, u can find that chapterpoint and set ur layer break there.
Let say that u have only ur videotrack. If u set a chapter point and set it as layer brake at the middle and after of ur videostream automatically u have set ur layer 0 larger than layer1. Scenarist also gives u details of the capacity of each layer. So u can also check it from there.

Thank you very much for detailed information.
I think no problems would appear.

If creating your own DVD9 project, does your burning software get the layer break from the ifo ?

I use CopyToDVD as a burning software.
It set layer break point exactly where I had determined in Scenarist (opposite track path)

It seems the newest version of DVDDecrypter does, and it could also make perfect 1:1 backups!
I think CopyToDVD and all the others may do something wrong but DVDDec is very trustworthy!
My question is: how do you check your burned DL media to see if the layer break is correctly set according to ifo files?

Well, to check where the laeyer break is set I compared two ifo files:
first file - created by Scenarist and the second ifo file - is the ifo file from the already burnt DL media.
I should notice, that I haven't check precisely (bit to bit comparison) these ifos. Ifo created by Scenarist showed me the layer break between 12 and 13 chapters (where I set it). Same information was in the ifo file on the burnt media.

How do you check physical location of the layer break on the disk?
