View Full Version : SMP support needed in XviD? How/when?

My dual xeon rig is crippled with my favourite codec because of no SMP support, and seemingly some problems with hyperthreading as well.

I've read comments from several people in this forum that SMP support isn't there, and probably won't be - no one wants to pick up the vestigal code and revive it. The question I have is what is going to happen next year with dual core processors? Without it whoever has a dual core Intel or AMD processor will only get 1/2 the speed of their machine. Seems like SMP support is something that could be used today and will set us up for next year. :sly:

Thoughts?

It's a "simple" matter of finding a person who would do that. P/I-frame encoder cannot be multithreaded in any good way, but B-frames can be, quite nicely.

Volunteers? :)

SMP support of B-frame encoding would be great, so who ever is willing to program it got my vote :)
