View Full Version : Big quality difference between CCE2.5 & 2.66?

I know this a dangerous question, it's off course a personal choise but I'm gonna ask it anyway.
I've done some tests with 2.5 & 2.66, 2.5 seems to be faster (I've got a P4 1.8Ghz & 512SDRAM so speed does matter a bit).
I like ReOpt (specially the natural picture preset), is 2.5 not compatible with these filters?

Anyway, 2.5 or 2.66?
Any thoughts?

Tnx

I have a 1GHz processor and have found the same as you, that 2.5 is faster (much faster) than 2.6+. I also haven't noticed a difference in the video quality but perhaps someone who's more of an expert would care to comment on their opinion of the quality difference, if there is any.

I think its because of this:

-2.5 does not use any filters, like you said natural....
-2.5 does is not able to use other matrixes as the standard one

Encoding with a filter does take longer because of more cpu-power which is need therefore.
Natural Filter is in standardoption enabled, so if you don't switch it off, its on and with that longer encoding by more needed power.

I prefer 2.67 because of more oportunities, but for people who never use other matrixes or filters is the best choice the old 2.5 one.

I prefer 2.67 over 2.5 as well, a while back I compared the two on a test movie and when comparing still frames there was little different. However when watching a section of video I noticed that the 2.67 seems to be a little more consistent with compression artifacts. 2.5 was making alternating compression artifacts every few frames which was quite distracting. Could have just been present on this particular movie though.

2.5 is notoriously bad at handling interlaced material, especially things such as TV programs. It was primarily designed as a movie encoding tool...so it does progressive movies very well....interlaced material on 2.5 looks quite smudged and a little "skippy"...almost de-interlaced, but not quite. Its quite obvious. Once they had 2.5 out, they set to work on getting interlaced right and 2.66 and 2.67 are MUCH better at handling both...

If youre only doing widescreen, hollywood movies that are progressive, you wont see much of a difference...
