Hello,
I am using DVD RB 0.56 and I just notice that the English subtitle on some of the DVD's (roughly 5 out of 10) is missing even though the standalone setup says that it is on????
Is this an anomaly or is there some trick we have to do on some DVD's i.e. DVD's w/ seven subtitles, DVD's w/ the English subtitle as the third option... etc.
Any suggestions appreciated.

They shouldn't be removed unless you've checked them (to remove) in the setup screen.

I checked all the settings and they seem to be the way they're supposed to be. English titles and Audios are "Unchecked". Also,
there are no line items for 'Unknown', which I notice that some DVD titles have as audio or subtitle?

Hi you two. :)
kRuZaDeR, in what format are these problematic DVDs?
16:9, 4:3, anamorphic, etc etc ?
It could very well be the subpictures are present, but cropped by your tv screen.

The removal algorithm first looks at each existing audio or subpicture listed in the IFO file, and compares them against the removal criteria in the tables (checkboxes). If they are flagged for removal they are collected into a "removal" string (made up of the two letter language codes). As the new .VTSs are built the original audio/subpicture data is integrated into the output, and anything flagged for removal is passed over (when reading the source). Since an "Unknown" can't be located in the removal criteria, they can't be added to the removal string -- so they always stay.

ddlooping,
Thank you for your putting in your 2 cents. OK if your speculation is true "It could very well be the subpictures are present, but cropped by your tv screen", what STEPS (solution) should I do to uncrop this?
Appreciate your help.

jdobbs,
Thanks for explaining that the "Unknown" audio and subtitles are not deleted. I just want to say that your program is tops and it beats all the others. Thank you very much for all your hard efforts.

kRuZaDeR, I can only suggest you change the aspect ratio on your TV and see if the subs appear. :)

The english subtitles that were removed, were they by any chance the closed caption (for the hard of hearing) type?
Since RB removes those (last time I checked anyway) I figured it's worth asking :)

Jdobbs,
"Close Caption is not supported", Hmmmm...
Sorry for this stupid question but could you explain (describe) how a subtitle is close captioned?
Thanks for all your help.
Might well be the cause of the missing English subtitles on some of the DVD's ...

Closed captions are in a few dvds as a substitution for substitles. closed captions arent really a stream in the vob.. they are more closer to being actual part of the vid stream. they are stored in the line21 of the video signal (line 22 starts the active video picture) and are usually decoded by your tv set on playback. if you encode the video (cce) then line21 is lost.. and would have to be replaced.. the last version of rejig i used (a transcoder) did keep the line 21 (cc) info...
how you can tell if your missing 'subs' are close captions.. play the dvd in power dvd and turn on the subs.. if the subtittle right click box says that no subs are active then you are probably watching closed captions. closed captions are also just one color so they are alot plainer looking than subtitles .
