Well I selected the English subtitle from the language selection. But when the main movie plays (DVD image loaded using Alcohol), the subtitle is set to disabled (using windvd to view it).

Any ideas on how to fix it?

Thanks for the replies.

edit:

after some investigation, it seems the original DVD doesn't the problem. I reencoded the menus using numenu, would that be a cause?

grrr ... the forum is being decidedly difficult today ...

anyways, for the second time ...

did you strip anything from the dvd?
warnings, intros, etc? as these can affect language/subtitle selections.

you can use one of 2cools guide to change subtitle selection in ifoedit.

out of interest does the back-up exhibit the same flaw when played via ifoedit? or you could verify what your standalone does by burning to a RW disc.

The backup (DVD ISO image) plays fine in ifoedit.

I did strip the DVD with some stuff. But not the videos (FBI, intros and others) displayed before you get the root menu.

are you sure you didnt play the iso in windvd a while ago with th subtitles on, and the program simply remembered your settings?

I moved the reencoded DVD image into another PC (my main PC) and then delete it. I then used WMP9 and windvd to view it. And no matter how many times I try and select the subtitle from the language selection, it just won't show.

Since it wasn't working on my main PC, I went to the 2nd PC where I ran the encode and played the original DVD image. I selected the the subtitle and it was showed the first time when I played the main video.

@jarthel

I am wondering if the problem is due to the re-encode of the main menu. There was a problem with the current available build that was setting the incorrect GPRM value for subs. I suggest checking the ifo (probably vts_01_0) if this was the main menu; and searching the pre/post commands for each pgc in the menu pgc's and comparing to the original. If it was this then possibly the subs would never get shown.

post your results.
