Good Evening;

My father and I have discussed transferring some of our collection from various VHS and Beta tapes to DVD. Some of the collection are transfers from various reel formats (early 1910 - 1920's), and a great many of the Beta cassettes are about 15 years or so old. I would hazard a guess that it will be around 60% B&W, with the remainder in color.

With that in mind, I've been reading up on a lot of this stuff, but am still kind of at a loss. I think I understand the Capture FAQ pretty well, but I still have a couple of questions, mostly hardware related at the moment.

I was considering the Canopus ADVC100/110 series (big fan of FireWire), but I'm also considering the ADVC300 - if only for some of the additional features. I'm also open to suggestions on different / additional hardware. One of the main things I'm concerned about are the Beta tapes / player output.

Anyways, I'm sure this will be the first of many questions, so thanks for the advice. :)

Your tapes may be well served by a device called a time base corrector. I've found the quality of the VCR can have a major impact on your VHS captures as well....
