Hi
I've converted an avi to DVD with DVD2SVCD the avi audio was Ac3
448 kbs/5 ch CBR 48000Hz.
It plays fine on my computer,But on standalone only the video plays, no audio at all.
I've searched the forums but cannot find a solution. Any suggestions please.

was the audio actually converted during the process? if so, what was it converted to?

you need to make sure that the converted audio is of a format that a standalone player is happy with.

can you give us a bit more info please?

Hi Dalboy1. Welcome to the forum.
As WhipHubley says, the more info you can provide the better. If you follow the link at the top of the forum to the sticky index, you will see one labelled Mandatory Read. It gives good info on how to structure a problem post.

With regards to your problem I have an idea what may be going on and WhipHubley could well be on the right lines.

AVI2DVD converts the audio from avi files to MP2.
Although MP2 audio is a recognised format within DVD-Video sprecifications, these specs also state that for cross-compatibility with first-generation players, all DVD's should have either a PCM or AC3 stream also.

Technically, therefore a DVD created with AVI2DVD is not standard-compliant. However, standalones which will not play them are extremely rare. I think, however, you are the proof that they do exist :)

Q74 of the Official Q+A sticky at the top of this forum details how to preserve the AC3 stream from your AVI.
Give it a go and report back.

Cheers
Nick

You may note that the newest build of DVD2SVCD allows you to check the "use source audio" box in the audio tab when encoding from AVI.

Obviously the AVI container allows for a huge variety of audio types. It is up to you to determine that your particular AVI has DVD-compliant audio before checking this box.

However, with AC3 audio in AVI, this should negate the need for Q74.

Hi Nick
I tried another conversion using latest build of DVD2SVCD using source audio as you suggested. It worked a treat, except that the file size ended up a little too big.I just have to figure out settings to adjust that and I'm in business.
