After reading an article on TV tone I gather that season 4 of Star Trek: Enterprise (http://www.tvtome.com/Enterprise/season4.html) will be shot directly onto digital media.
Does anybody have any more information?

They're switching from shooting 35mm film to shooting hd video. Probably because getting the footage to a computer is faster with video than it's with film. Quality should stay about the same, but the look may be different. The cameras they use are pretty much the same that are used to shoot the new Star Wars movie.
Some sci-fi and other cgi-heavy shows have switched to video recently (both Stargates for example), but film is still used for many shows that don't use cgi stuff. Nowadays the quality of hd-video and 35mm film is about the same, but the look is different. For some reason nobody really uses the normal video look but spend a lot of time and money trying to tweak it to look like film.

Not more, only same from a German source, two weeks ago.
But no matter with what technics they'll shoot it - I can tell you what we European native primitives will get:
Field-blended crap, with overdone edge enhancement, overlayed gaussian haze, and asymetrical reduced color gamut. Exactly the same what we get now,

Breif quote from Scot Bakula about how the switch is to do with the reduced budget for Season 4:

Thanks for that.
I seem to remember that the movie 'Once Upon a Time in Mexico' was also shot entirely in digital at 24fps.
From what I understand it looked pretty good when projected onto a 'big screen', so by rights it's should look more than good enough when authored to DVD or even HD DVD.
When it comes to integrating digitized CGI scenes with live action scenes, keeping everything digital certainly seems to make sense. Has anybody read what type of equipment they are using/intending to use?
I'm curious to know if they'll use film speeds (like StarWars 2/3). Or, because it's being shot for TV, something else!
Also, does anybody know if the last season of Stargate SG1 shot in digital?

They shoot at 24 fps. It's the only way to achieve the film look they want. The cameras can shoot 24/25/30 fps progressive or 50/60 field per second. It's also easier to do format conversions to 24p material compared to 60i stuff. In Europe lots of stuff is shot at 25 fps because some 50 hz lights can cause flicker if the camera is not in sync with them.

Great.. thanks for the info guys!
It would seem they're using the new Sony 900 high-definition digital camera (http://news.sel.sony.com/pressrelease/3297)

i imagine there's also an advantage in the DVD not having chipmunk-sound as well.
for once the NTSC people can deal with off-key sound.
