Anyone think they actually listened and fixed the file size issues? Or any of the pertinent, and pressing bugs that where inherent in version 8?

Yeah, hard to say. If they did, they're subtle about it... e.g. "Fixed: various analyze bugs"??

Here's a direct link to the update:

direct link to update (ftp://ftp.pinnaclesys.de/driver/pc/InstantCDDVD/CD_DVD/InstantCopyUpdate8.3.0.4.exe)

I'm gonna give it a try out here in a few minutes...

Ok, just did a transcode sized to 4.37GB. Came out to 4.28GB, so it doesn't look like they've nailed that one with the update.

Also, in case anyone is wondering the Registry settings are now under an "8.0" key, not "7.5" anymore. I.e.:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VOB\CD Wizard\8.0\Copy

@infoscapeone
Where did you get this list of changes? Can't find it anywhere...

infoscapeone
19th August 2004, 14:29
Got it from support. Probably it was meant only for support and not for customers but I was glad to get it - many interesting hidden features;)

I also asked about the sizing issue and the answer was that they always work with about 150MB tolerance because of the constant quality approach IC is using. Quality should be higher this way than with filling the disc but the need to cut bitrate to some constant average bitrate.

RB
19th August 2004, 14:48
Ah, OK :) So how does one activate the "hidden" features such as outputting to VIDEO_TS folder and audio downsampling?

infoscapeone
19th August 2004, 15:23
Don't know about the audio transcoding. For VIDEO_TS output you have to set the DVDAltOutPut in the registry to True.

MackemX
21st August 2004, 11:44
thanks for letting everyone know about the release infoscapeone and welcome to the forums ;)

the registry location is Current User/VOB/CD Wizard/8.0/Copy in case anyone has trouble finding it

I don't know if the PowerToys setting is also set to TRUE but it has been in mine :)

To enable the hidden audio downsampling feature, create a DWORD value named "AdvancedAudio" (without the quotes)in registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VOB\7.0\Copy and set it to 1. Now 5.1/6.1 AC3 audio can be downsampled to 192 kbps "AC3 Virtual", selectable in audio settings in custom resize dialog.

@RB, @MackemX nice tips! Do you know if The MadGuy is still alive? we need an updated Hidden Settings editor...:)

I get a "Class Not Registered (80040154)" error when I tried to downsample the audio.

wouldn't you put the registry hack for the audio trancoding be in "Current User/VOB/CD Wizard/8.0/Copy" instead of "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VOB\7.0\Copy"?

From memory, and I might be wrong as I don't have it installed anymore, I am sure that the correct line for IC8 comes out as "7.5" in the registry so it should in effect be "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\VOB\7.5\Copy" IIRC.

**Edit**

Yep just found a list of the old reg hack entries that MackemX sent me a long while back and they were as follows:-

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\VOB\CD Wizard\7.5\Copy]

"DVDDestSize"=dword:00001189 sets it to 4489MB

"DVDDestDisplaySize"=dword:00001189 sets it to 4489MB

"DVDAnalyzeMaxRel"=dword:00000020 sets it to 32%

"DVDAnalyzeMinAbs"=dword:00000020 sets it to 32 x 2.5MB packets that get analysed

"DVDSaveQuality"=dword:00000000 sets the safety margin to 0MB

"DVDSaveFast"=dword:00000000 sets the safety margin to 0MB

"DVDAutoFast"=dword:00000064 stops it from setting it to Fast setting

"DVDAlwaysEnableOkButton"="True" obvious

So the "7.5" string is the correct one going by that. :)

Can any one help me out here, when I install IC8 as soon as I try to run it I get a "Class Not Registered" error and it closes down. Any ideas what to do...

MackemX
26th August 2004, 01:28
try unistalling it all and reinstalling from your original version of IC. If you can, clean out your registry also of any Instantcopy folders when you have unistalled it

this is normally one way of getting everything working again as the registry gets corrupt somehow

I changed the setting to true, rebooted, and IC8 still output pdi files :/
What am I doing wrong?

just in case anyone doesn't know how to activate the VIDEO_TS folder output after activating it

right click the Hard Drive in the right hand window and then you will see it as an option ;)

I don't know if I'm allowed to ask this, but delete my post if not. :)

So is there a way to install this new update onto my trial IC8.0.3? (Maybe in email...)

MackemX
26th August 2004, 15:23
I don't think so

they may bring out a new trial with all this update included though as they have done with previous versions

Catman

I just wanted to see that the update solves my current problem... Well, then I'll have to wait for the new trial...

Thanks Mackemx

I tried what you said and same thing, so I decided to go ahead and try to apply the new upgrade patch and now all works fine...
Wierd eh?

@ catman
There is a patch to take IC7 to IC8.0.4 if you have IC7 then I think you can add the latest patch.

I tried right clicking on the hard drive on the right window to get it to output video_ts files and no luck. no such option appears and I did activate it through regedit. Am i missing something? has anyone really gotten this to work or is this pure assumption?

MackemX
30th August 2004, 04:42
it works fine for me :)

which registry path did you edit?

Rumbah
30th August 2004, 17:05
I had the same problem as Irosado. Then I just took regedit and searched for DvdAltOutput and I found it twice in my registry, and only one was set to true. When setting both to true, everything works fine. The entries were in HKEY_LOKAL_USER and in HKEY_USERS at the given position some posts ago (WinXP). Hope this helps.

When I right click on the hard drive on the right screen, I get two options. One that says "Select Destination" and the second says "Select Destination Folder". Am I supposed to select the second option to get it to output .vob files as opposed to .pdi files?

that's it, choose Select Destination folder and then it will output the files as normal :)

Hi All
I'm newbie on this forum.
I would like to know if there is someone that have already tested so far the hidden feature of the IC 8.3, like the transcoder.
This one look like a matrix for process I,B,P for each bits ( 10 why? maybe for the DC precision?)
I try to put some numbers, but I didn't see any difference.
Some has already tested this feature?
Any idea?

Thanks

i have make the update but i dont have the Option for Video_TS Output. i have a problem, IC8 will not use the full 4,37gb, what can i do?

TheSeeker
17th September 2004, 21:40
This is the biggest problem most people have with IC. It undersizes. You can either do one of two things. Either one the output looks good to you, in which case the undersizing really doesnt matter, its usually not undersized by all that much and if the resulting video quality is good what does it matter? or the second thing is to get the IC hidden settings editor where you can set the button to say OK even if the project is oversized. Then you can oversize it by exactly how much your dvd was undersized and that works fairly well. Or you can do what most do and try out DVD Shrink.

IC hidden settings editor not working with the latest 8.3 Update. i have hear the latest DVD Shrink 3.2 with AEC have a better quality. is this real? i have install DVD Shrink but i can not found AEC.

TheSeeker
17th September 2004, 22:14
Yea the newest version is DVD Shrink 3.2. The AEC Options dont appear until you actually click on the Backup button. Then a window pops up with some tabs and one is quality. Here you can choose to use AEC and what type of algorithm. Also, I suggest doing a deep analysis as this greatly improves the quality as well. I would say shrink easily competes with IC8 in terms of quality. Plus it has the ability to rip and re author dvd's so it has a few more features than IC. Oh you can replace extras with still images as well to save space for main movie video. Pretty cool stuff.

EDIT: so you would rip the dvd with dvd decrypter. Open the resulting files with shrink. Do a deep analysis on the files. .then you can remove any audio or video extras that you dont need. and then you can back it up using AEC. I personally use the Max Sharpness setting.

It is by default 30% - did anymone changed it and got better results?

You are right, they are the same, i should search the forum before posting, my fault.:D

Wait..
hmm..they not the same actually, i try upgrade to my InstantCopy CD/DVD 8.0, it say cant find InstantCopy 8.0. the update are not for InstantCopy 8 CD/DVD, it for InstantCopy 8.0 (confused:confused: )
here is the note from the 8.3.0.8 update page:

Main Changes

- Double Layer Support for Instant Copy
- fixed: Audio CD copy hangs on some Writer
- fixes in Japanese language
- minor bugfixes

Note: This update can only be applied if Instant Copy 8, NOT INSTANT CD/DVD 8, is installed! The Double Layer Support does only affect

Instant Copy 8. Other modules like.
- Expression
- Instant Video Album
- Instant Photo Album
- ...
cannot use this feature.

are not for InstantCopy 8 CD/DVD, it for InstantCopy 8.0 (confused )
instant cd/dvd 8 is a complete package that has a version of instantcopy but to update thats version you can not use instantcopy standalone updates. thats all that means. :)

i try upgrade to my InstantCopy CD/DVD 8.0, it say cant find InstantCopy 8.0. the update
thats mentioned in that first link aswell. i just told the friend of mine who uses instantcopy to completely uninstall instantcopy, reinstall the original(no updates) and then this update. it was found and updated fine then where before it failed to find it(because he had done the 8.3.0.4 update before).
