i'm currently considering (!) to update my home machine to SP2 and have read that SP2 is causing some troubles with Divx (see here (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=80782)!

now i don't really care about a working divx installation but i am using Xvid on a very frequent basis, so my question is:

has anybody installed SP2 and sucessfully encoded an xvid movie afterwards??

thx in advance,

steVe

I have installed SP2 and I can encode Xvid clips just like before installing it. Just make sure that you disable the new microsoft firewall and you shouldn't have any problems.

XviD does not create or modify its code when it runs, so I don't expect any problems at all - at least not with execution protection. I'd say you're safe.

Actually from my tests SP2 has actually increased the speed of my xvid. I'm using a P3 1.1ghz machine and using a script that used to give me 4-5fps when running through xvid is now giving me 10fps. I also tried doing a 0 filter set with just a crop and resize and I actually for the first time in history I got realtime 30fps encoding.

Anyone else experienced this?

I have no problems with XviD and SP2.
There is no need to disable the firewall.

No problems here.
However P2P is slowed down terribly (coz of the EventID 4226).
A patcher is available here: http://www.lvllord.de/?lang=en&url=downloads
It works with any OS language.
A connection limit of 100 (or more?) is reccomended for P2P users (SP2 default = 10).

Override the limit is useful only if you are a heavy User of Emule/Edonkey, BitTorrent or any P2P program that requires a lot of incoming/outcoming connection to/from the users that share what you're looking for.

Patching is not required. Here's the reason:

QUOTE

The TCP/IP stack now limits the number of simultaneous incomplete
outbound TCP connection attempts. After the limit has been reached,
subsequent connection attempts are put in a queue and will be resolved
at a fixed rate. Under normal operation, when applications are
connecting to available hosts at valid IP addresses, no connection
rate-limiting will occur. When it does occur, a new event, with ID
4226, appears in the system’s event log.
