I'm encoding some movies I've recorded on my panasonic DVR. The files are saved to a DVD-RAM disc in a folder DVD-RTAV with three files
VR_MANGR.BUP
VR_MANGR.IFO
VR_MOVIE.VRO

I'm encoding these using Dr.Divx and it seems to have no problems recognizing the files when I point it to the VRO file.

However, the resulting avi's aren't framed properly.

Most of them have a black bar down the right hand side of the screen. At least one has a thin white line across the top & down the right side.

I've taken these same files & authored them to a standard DVD and they work fine.

Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

thanks,

Hello, and welcome to the forum.

VRO is not DVD compliant. But that doesn't mean that there are no solutions. Here's one method of getting MPEG-2 video and AC3 audio from a VRO file:

In addition, it appears that IfoEdit may be able to demux VRO as well:

In addition, question 4.10 of the official DVD FAQ may have additional info for you on .VRO files in DVD-VR format:

I hope one or more of these are helpful to you. If not, let us know and we'll move your thread to a more appropriate forum (Decrypting, perhaps?).

thanks for the info jggimi.

It turns out that the problem was ENTIRELY operator error! I didn't know that DR. Divx has an option to crop the image during encoding (its a little bit hidden). Once I sorted that out my encoding of VRO's is fine.

thanks again.
