I am tempted to buy the NEC 2500A drive now at newegg. I heard 2500A can be flashed to make it a dual-layer dvdrw so I am going with 2500a rather than a NEC2510 dvdrw.

1) But should I wait since dvdrw drives are getting cheaper real quick as fast drives are introduced to the market?

2) Should I pay like $5 bucks more and get the Roxio CD/DVD Creator 6 cd that is bundled together with the OEM dvdrw? I have Nero Burning Rom 5.5 and not too sure if it is enough.

3) Or can I find the software I need at doom9.org?

hi and welcome to the forum!

here's my 2 €-cents to your problem:
a) get the nec 2500a it's a reliable burner, i own it myself and haven't had any bad experiences with it!

b) 8x burning is probably all you need as you'll most likely end up burning at 4x (or lower) anyway, as faster writing speeds tend to introduce more errors, which can be very annoying when watching the dvds!

c) no, don't buy roxio dvd creator! from what i've heard it isn't the best dvd writing software and nero 5.5 definitely is sufficient! furthermore you can create *.iso files using image tool classic and burn them with dvddecrypter so for burning video dvds you do not need any commercial burning tool! btw if you own an oem version of nero it will not work with another drive than the one you bought it with! if you end up buying a new burning program i'd go for nero 6 - imho it's the best around atm!

Not unless you want to waste 5 bucks. Well, let me change that. I use two things I got with Roxio CD/DVD 6: Roxio's photo editing software and Roxio's DVDmax player (which is a Roxio branded version of PowerDVD). If you do not need either of those things, save the $5.
