View Full Version : Should i keep the ifo files after muxing m2v/ac3 using ifoedit?

Here's my situation:

I encode DV to MPEG-2, then mux my MPEG-2 & AC-3 to VOB using ifoedit/DVD Author tool/Create New DVD.

I mux this way 'cause all i need at the moment is a vob file so i can back it up to hard-drives. I usually delete my tapes so the only home video there is, is on my backup hard-drives. I keep them on hard-drives in case i ever want to edit them in the future. I then author them to DVD for playback.

Should i keep the ifo files produced by ifoedit or are they useless?

If I were you, I would keep them. They're really small files and with them you can easily watch your video clips on your PC with a DVD software player, instead of having to open each VOB file.
And when you author to DVD, if you don't care about the menu, you just have to burn your folder with IFO and VOB files and you're done (provided that it fits on the disc, otherwise you have to shrink it a bit or import it in an authoring program ;) )

You are right, the files are so small anyway.

Thanks!
