View Full Version : Problems bypassing FBI warning & Studio Logo on 3 DVDs

Hi All,

First off hats off to 2Cool and the others for all the excellent information, I'm sure I'm not the only one here that would have never advanced this far w/o his help! :)

The problem in question is eliminating the FBI logo & Studio Logo screens that play when the DVD is first played and whenever the "Titleset Menu" function is used (in IFIedit for example). So far I've tried every trick I know and could find in 2Cools guides to no real success. It will bypass said parts on 1st play and then they play again regardless as soon as the title menu is used. Needless to say this is quite frustrating.

Tools used: IFOEdit, PowerDVD, DVD Decryptor.

The DVDs in question (I've not even tried working on the 2nd and 3rd discs yet until the problem is solved with disc 1) are the Pioneer release of "Hand Maid May" Anime series.

Titles to be bypassed are both found in VTS_01_0.IFO, cells 1 & 2 of 3 (#3 appears to be blank with a runtime of 2.00)

IFOedit playback lists them as:

Title 1 Chapter 1 = FBI Warning
Title 1 Chapter 2 = Pioneer Logo

Both of these appear to be found in vts_01_1.vob (15mb) while vts_01_0.vob appears to contain all of the dvd navigation screens.

I'd paste in the info I see from IFO edit but for some reason it dosn't seem to like c&p very much :(

I now have a copy of PGC edit (thnx 2cool!) but am brand new to it so if info is needed via it complete details would be helpful.

I did a dvd info dump in pgcedit however the resulting file is 300K+ so pasting it in here complete would be insane.

Any help on this problem will of course be much appreciated.

Regards,

Shalimar

Try this. Here's how to use PgcEdit to blank out a whole VTS. You only have one PGC in VTS_01 so blanking out everything here is what we want.

1. Open up your original IFOs in PgcEdit.

2. On left side (PGC Selector section) right click on VTST 1 / TTN 1 (0:23) Title 1

3. Select Blank out all VTST Titles

4. Click OK

5. Ctrl+S to save

6. Play to test.

Let me know if this works for you.

OK editing and tests done.

Results... plays w/o those 2 screens initially in both IFOedit and PowerDVD. However in IFOedit there seems to be something very strange happening.

The "Title Menu" button no longer brings up the title menu.. it brings up the 1st play (Nanbara's Room) menu again.. almost a loop. (Pioneer did some very strange things on this DVD!) However if I use the "Menu" button instead and choose "Title Menu" it displays the title menu.. very strange. It plays fine using Power DVD.

This overall seems to have bypassed the 2 parts in question (I'll burn and test on all available standalone players soon to vfy)

One more small problem has been found now though (similar to what I've seen on other discs). The same screens (FBI warning/studio spam) have been duplicated in the beginning of Title 31 Chapter 1.

Using IFOEdit's VOB preview (static) function (dbl click on PGC_1 Ch1 info (in VTS_31_0.IFO) it appears that the 1st 6000 sectors is this duplication before the start of the actual program.

Editing the entry sector for this chatper might be a soloution? If so the question would be calculating the proper playtime data so as to not screw w/soundtrack/subtitles etc (Basing this guess on your tutorial for bypassing unwanted titles by editing them to be 0.00.000 length (value 192 NTSC)).

OK upon waking my brain up i rechecked your listing of guides more carefully and followed the info in this tutorial:
http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43403

This has successfully eliminated the fbi warning/studio spam from one location in the playback menu. (VTS_31_0.ifo)

However when choosing to start playback from the chapter menu (as most would on this sort of DVD) the warning/logo etc remain in the playback stream.

I'm currently digging using IFOedit to see if there is a second start point listed somewhere in the IFO's for use via chapter menu?

*argh* I ought to kick Pioneer's ass for this mess! *LOL*

Shal

Edit:

Ok I need sleep demmit.. no sooner had I finished writing this post than I checked in IFO edit again.. and sure enough VTS_PGC_2 is pretty much a duplication of VTS_PGC_1. Apply new starting sector and presto all solved.

Many thanks and hats off to 2cool once again proving beyond any doubts at all his nickname is well deserved indeed! >:)

I'm glad things worked out for you. But really, that guide gives credit to VidHack, who came up with that. Though my guides get old when a new tool comes along, I believe you could have used VobBlanker's cut feature in this situation for better ease.

And which Ver of vobblank? I have one here and it dosn't seem to do a hell of alot for a case like this :(

Did you download the current version (http://www.posunplugged.com/jsoto/)?

One more small problem has been found now though (similar to what I've seen on other discs). The same screens (FBI warning/studio spam) have been duplicated in the beginning of Title 31 Chapter 1.You mentioned that the unwanted segments are part of the first chapter. I don't know if there is a guide for this but it suppose to cut titles. Though I've read that there are some problems with this feature, there are also some success stories told too.

Honestly.. i googled for it and found a copy that way (looked in doom9's downloads before and didn't see it)

info from the readme with the version I have:

Since your help w/this disc I've just tonight finished "deleting" the same sort of studio garbage from another disc. Test play in powerDVD works fine.. IFOplay is a little buggy (no big suprise there) and will do a burn test tomorrow (if i get time).

PGCedit looks like it'll be invalueable like IFOedit is for me.. once I learn more about it so I can say I have a reasonable idea of what I'm doing ~_^

If you had perused through the VobBlanker thread (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=73145&perpage=20&pagenumber=1), there is mention that you have to do a mock strip using IfoEdit as a post step to correct the sectors. That is doing VOB ID or stream strip procedure through VOB Extras but keeping everything.
