View Full Version : Problems with DVDShrink 3.2 and Kill Bill Vol. 2

Has anyone tried this combination? I used Shrink 3.2 on the whole disc, with the extras reduced to "still image" and with AEC set to "sharp" and my resulting files will not play correctly. Everything is absolutely fine until I get to chapter 12 where the video becomes choppy and the audio is gone. I have tried the same settings on two different machines with the exact same results.

Any ideas?

I did just the movie and subtitles and it came out to 92% compression
and it played on 2 set top players, my new cheap one you could turn subtitles on and off even. (Ripped with Decrypter 3.2.)

I've recently done this project with Shrink, as well... but I only created a "movie-only" project. I believe the slider read 92% for that, as in the case of commando57. No playback issues whatsoever.

I did, however, have to select the smaller English subs file as my default playback folder so that the translation subs would kick in. Same thing on Hildago, as well. (This, for the benifit of those who have trouble retaining their forced subs.)

I just did a full backup of kill bill 2 last night and reduced the menus and extras to about 51% and the movie was 63%. It came out very clear on my 42" hd tv and played all the way through from the hard drive (I have not burnt it yet. you may want to not put the stills in or try burning a movie only copy to see if it helps. I observed that it copies the menu intro about 7 times in a row (I guess for the different selections such as lang. scene selection extras etc. I'm not sure if that has something to do with your problem.

Hi, how do you select your default sub stream in dvdshrink? I had a problem when doing the movie "Bulletproof Munk", I have to select sub track 3 with my DVD remote for the subs to popup at the correct time. Other movies are fine. I'm planning on putting KillBill 1&2 on one DVD this weekend and want to make sure the English subs come on at the right time without having to manually select with my remote.
Thanks

I have done a successful full disc backup with vol 2.

Hi, how do you select your default sub stream in dvdshrink?

When you reauthor, there is another menu. Right mouse click on the title on the right. You will get a pop up menu and can select set default streams. From here, yoy can select a default audio and subtitle. With Kill Bill you need to select the smallest (third) subtitle.

Awesome :) I'll check it out.

@Holomatrix

You can also use this feature to set the default sound streams on a title. Let's say that you want to keep the director's commentary (Kill Bill has no such thing... but of course other movies do!), but you want the 5.1 channel as your default. All you have to do is go to "Reauthor," select the title from the DVD Browser by double-clicking it... then right click on the title when it appears as part of your project. Select the 5.1 soundstream as your default, and presto! Your disk will always default to the 5.1 stream, while you can use your remote to select the commentary track later.

The subtitle thing can be a bit troublesome in that so many DVDs are using forced subs... you often don't realise what you've forgotten to manually select until after the project's burned and you're watching it. Sometimes the subs show up on their own... sometimes they don't. Most times, if they show up on your software player, they'll show up on your set top. Most times. It always pays to know what's supposed to be on the disk you're backing up.

Ok, thanks for the info guys. To bad the subs don't show in the dvdshrink preview window so that I could watch a preview ahead of time to make sure it's going to turn out right or if the default is already what you want, then shrink it.

Auto subs (English 1) are not showing up with Kill Bill 1 or 2 if I transcode movie only, even though with movie only I do select the english 1 sub as default. When I play it in my DVD player the subs are set at disable and I need to select subs 1 manually. Can someone give me some info on view/editing the ifo/bup files so I can edit them after and set the proper sub? If I trancode the whole disc then play the movie sub 1 automatically gets selected so not sure why some movies don't work when doing movie only.
Thanks

In movie only mode you can select the default audio/sub stream by pressing the right mouse button on the selected title.

I think when doing movie only the pre/sub comands of the original disc are not there anymore this causes the stream not to be displayed automaticly if it is not a real forced sub stream. Maybe ddlooping can explain it better.

Hi, I have selected the sub I want in shrink and my VTS_01_0.IFO does have the Pre Command...(SetSTN) Set Subpicture Stream: #(Off)...[51 00 00 00 c0 00 00 00] set but still does not automatically popup. Is there another place I need to modify my files?
Thanks
