Does anybody know how to send the WMA 6ch signal correctly to a DD5.1/DTS receiver? So that the receiver sends every channel to the correct speaker. Or do I need to convert WMA 6ch to AC3?

The programs I use are,
AC3 Filter
Media Player classic
VLC Media player
GKnot
KX project driver for my audigy

TIA

I'm assuming you are using computer connected to a receiver. Then you can't use Digital transfer (aka no Coax or Optical is possible) since it would just send the bits to the receiver and expect it to decode WMA which no reciever (except some very expensive Panasonic only available in Japan can do). So you pretty much have to reencode to Dolby or DTS.

P.S. I hope you still have original source? Re-encoding anything to anything is a very-very-very bad practice! Sometimes we have to convert from Dolby on DVD to something else, but doing it again is even worse, every time you re-encode you loose quality no matter the bitrate.

Thanks for tha reply, is there a program that can convert WMA to AC3 on the fly? Or what is the best and simplest way to convert WMA 6ch into AC3?

I think AC3 Filter can do that. I've never actually tried because I have a nforce motherboard with the hardware dolby digital encoder built-in. It is also called soundstorm.

Yes you will lose some quality but aparently transcoding from wma pro to AC3 doesn't hurt the quality that much. You can read more about it over at the avsforum.com

AC3 Filter will do the job. Only for 48Khz sources!

Can AC3filter do the job over a digital 5.1 hook up, or only over a analog hook up?

AC3Filter will encode any mutlichan sources into an AC3 digital signal which will be send to your digital amp.
You need a soundcard with optical or coax output, and have it enabled.
Enabling the output depends on type of card you have, for example, i have to set my digital output config to PowerDVD software player. Other options are main outputs and digital source. You have to check you manual for this.

AC3Filter can also decode any 5.1 digital signal, it is a but useless, but nice extra becoz most players have 5.1 decodings capabilities.

Yes, AC3Filter (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=76480&highlight=ac3filter) can do this and does it very well.

If I'm not wrong, Valex was up to RC5 before he disappeared... come back Valex!

Anybody seen this man?

Should the receiver indicate that it is receiving a AC3 (DD5.1) stream, using a digital hook up?
