Thanks Doom9 for creating this section,
Hopefully it will make "New A/V Formats - Codecs" section a lot less cluttered
All we need now are some trusty and well respected moderators :)

wow! cool, finally :D
real video is getting more and more attention as a codec for dvd backup n stuff (my favourite at the moment... 350 kbit/s audio+video and it still sounds and looks good)

Now we need some modos. Yep.. And who better than your good self - plus some others of course!
But what exactly does a moderator have to do. And what's the scope of a 'moderators' powers over us 'small-folk'?

usually they can edit and delete posts, close threads and split threads...
they also can give out warnings or ban users instantly... but that depends

Mostly correct: we can't ban users, we can only strike them.

I can go into Sirber one vote and am needed.
Reason: It is since it seems to be free. :p
Although karl_lillevold participates in commerce too much, is it satisfactory that he is set to moderator as Doom9?

Hmmmm... since this section contains threads about realaudio as well as realvideo shouldn't it be named "Real" or "Real codecs" instead of "RealVideo"? Someone would think it is not at all audio related just by looking at the title.

RealVideo is more known than RealMedia. I think it would be a bad move to rename it to RealMedia. It's like we name WMV9 raither than WM9.

Hi Sirber
I've been meaning to ask you. Do you know where there's a list of all the different Real file extensions?
Many thanks
Sirber

Thanks to Sirber for answering everything while I have been on vacation! It seems I could have stayed longer
In the Media Types section of RealPlayer, the following media types are listed in the RealAudio and RealVideo section:
.rt (RealText)
.ra (RealAudio)
.rm (RV/RA)
.rmvb (RV/RA VBR)
.rp (RealPix)
.rv (RealVideo)
RealPlayer also like to .smil, but that's in the "Other types" section.

Hi Karl,
Sirber also listed the .ram file extension. I suppose this extension is totally dead now?
Are there any other old Real extensions to look out for?
Cheers

Yes, but .ram is not listed specifically in RealPlayer, since it is not frequently used anymore. It was originally a simple text script to play one or more RealMedia files in a certain way. It is still supported. I have noticed that when I download a .rm file via http, it sometimes gets renamed to .ram. I think the http server might be doing this.
