Not sure if this is the correct forum for this question so feel free to move it...

I see many people have started putting SVCD encodes onto one DVD disc - obviously a great saving in physical media lying around.

How do you actually go about assmebling the DVD though? Do people burn the DVD as a data disc and add mpg files as they are made (so you finish one conversion, burn it, watch it, some time later you add another to the disc)?

Or is it possible to author a DVD with menus and sort of append to it and recreate the menus when you have another movie to add?

I do this:

1. I use DVD2SVCD in SVCD mode, select OPV, set Q=30, audio to 128, make no images.

2. Then I encode several movies, and keep only the video and audio streams. I rename them both to the name of the movie.

3. I use TMPGEnc DVD Author to create a menu and fit as many movies as I can on the same media. Sometimes I lose some space but not significantly.

When movies are anamorphic I encode them anamorphic SVCDs too, and I use DVD Patcher to fix them to 720 before authoring, and restore them to 480 after authoring, as suggested on the guide at www.doom9.org.

There is a way to do this with DVD 1/8 or 1/16 slices, proposed by DDogg, and using D2Sroba, but this simpler method has worked well for me lately.
