Found the release notes for 2.1.1.16:

Bug Fixes

* Nero Digital: encoding of 5.1 channel audio works now
* "Closed captions" are no longer stripped during requantize
* File size is now also shown for video files, not only for DVD titles
* Fixed the calculation of the final size in the re-author mode
* Removed "Remaining Time" and "FPS" from burner page for first pass, if two pass mode is selected
* Changed German translation for one string in preferences

Update2:
Did run a test on my favorite test DVD NARC. Encoding from harddisk to harddisk took 21 minutes including high quality mode and deep analyses. The quality has improved very much. The first scene used to be unwatchable but now it contains just a few macro blocks. Did not do a comparison to the new DVD shrink yet.

Now I wonder where the source for the quality improvements came from??????

He He - I think we all know the answer to that one :sly:

Good luck to them, as long as the happy marriage continues ;)

It's nice to see CC is supported in Recode. But since Shrink can now blank titles with a still, is there any reason not to use Shrink? Assuming they both have the same new AEC engine, they seem equal.

I think Recode can combine titlesets right?

To me, that's the last feature that Shrink needs before all other transcoders become obsolete....Recode has it, DVD2One has it. I think this is a must-have feature for backing up episodics or flippers to make it easier to navigate between episodes/chapters. Not all standalone DVD players have remotes to jump titles easily.

Right now, I use DVD2One to combine titlesets after I've trimmed them with DVDShrink. Usually takes 7 to 8 minutes. It's too bad Shrink does not have this feature. I've gotten to love the GUI of Shrink and really do not want to try Recode.

Anyone know what Shrink has that Recode does not? Does Recode have the reauthor/trimming feature?

I like to use recode on movies under 2 hours. I use dvd2svcd with CCE when doing anything 2+ hours and episode discs. I use the Batch mode. My question is if I use the new recode with highest quality, what would be the comparison to the output of that vs. CCE?
I know I can test this myself and I will. I was just wondering what other people think of the comparison as well...

the new Recode reminds me suspiciously of DVD Shrink. Who emulated whom with the setup and behavior of the program?

This whole thing has been hotly debated before - just check out the old forum threads for Shrink and Recode where there is a "possible" relationship between Mr Shrink and Ahead. Its alleged that Shrink is simply a beta test entity for Recode. For my part, I really don't care what that supposed relationship is and good luck to both of them. We the users have a choice for a totally free "version" or one where we have to own the main Nero software (which many have anyway)and get a slightly prettier interface.

You pays your money (or not) and gets your choice.....

Yea personally i couldnt care less... I have never used recode but may use this new one now that it has high quality settings and advanced analysis features.

It would only make me happy to know that mr. shrink was being compensated for his efforts.

It can combine titles and has the feature to keep the DVD datafiles. Also I personaly like the Nero Digital stuff. Mpeg 4 encoding the easy way.

DVD shrink has however the four EAC settings which you can choose from to get optimal quality. These settings are not in Recode. It has just the high qualty option without aditional settings.
The trim function in reauthor mode is also available in Recode.
