View Full Version : Audio weirdness

After using dvd2svcd for many years, it suddenly lets me down.
The following thing is happening:
If I encode from either dvd or avi to an svcd I get problems with the final mpg; the sound suddenly disappears after a random time.
Video encoding goes fine, but something strange happens during the besweet phase. It starts to scan for gain, which goes well. Then the transcoding starts, but it doesnt transcode the whole file. It just stops. No error and in the log it says conversion completed, while the file is only say 5 minutes. If I do the audioconversion manually using besweetgui, it goes fine.
To make things worse I have another problem. If I mux using bbmpeg, only the first couple of minutes have sound, the rest is muted. bbmpeg doesnt end with errors, though looking at the filesizes already tells me that things didnt go well. The 1st part is like 812megs (only has some minutes with sound, then it stops), while the 2nd mpeg is only like 625megs with no audio at all.
I tried reinstalling dvd2svcd, replaced just like everything relevant but nothing seems to help. It just started out of the blue, no mayor changes on my system.
Any thoughts?

With regard to converting an AVI, I find that DVD2SVCD often fails to rip AC3 audio properly.

Check the length of the file before encoding, and when you see BeSweet transcoding the audio check that the timecode runs for the same length. Often it doesn't, because not all of the audio was actually ripped.

In that case I just rip it myself (using VirtualDubMod usually) and drop it in place of the extracted audio file.

I'm not sure whether this is what you're experiencing, but I hope it helps.

This is exactly what I am experiencing! And yes, I do the same as you :)
Too bad that there isnt a fix in dvd2svcd yet. But still, it remains a mystery to me why it always has been working properly up until a few weeks ago...
