Well, it became a buzy homecoming after my recent vacation but now the forum is up and running at a temporary location and you might notice some delays due to my providers bandwidth.

Also the searchindex is currently rebuilding hence the searches might not find what you're looking for until finished, shouldn't take more than a couple of hours.

I don't think we lost more than a few new users personal information, the 'Location', 'Interests' and so on (luckily the backup-script has been doing its job).

Hi Swede,

Just as a matter of interest. How big (in MB) was the forum at the time of the crash?

Cheers

From now on you should be able to find what you're looking for.

The way I see it is that if we all contribute with our small(?) amount of knowledge we will be great. (And don't put any political values into this now).

I've been fooling around with computers since -79 or so, always wanted to find out more, learn more, understand.
Back then 1MHz was *fast*, 16kb RAM where waaaaaay more than you could use and floppy-disk? -Noooo, they're only in labs and so.
Some years later, on an Apple II, I was fascinated how one could use the 2 screenbuffers to do a crude animation. While showing buff-1 you could load the second one and then flip, thus making a 'animation'. That I understood....

(skipping many years)

In -93? -94? on one of the Macintosh Dev CDs there where a Quicktime version of an animated musicvideo that shoock my mind. On my 66MHz PPC (although in a small window) it looked really good. This one, I didn't understand and that p*ssed me off. Just HOW did they do that?

In the year 2000 (not 2525 ;) ) a friend showed me a movie(!) on his computer(!) and it blew my mind. Had the evoultion come this far? I had to find out what I've missed and then, by chance, I found a website that had a lot of interesting info and do-this-not-that.

To cut somewhat to the chase, I've never been a digital video buff, after 2 more years I knew that I could contribute more by helping out with the hosting and keep on lurking, reading the posts from the 'tough' guys (no, I won't mention names 'cause I'll just forget half of them) but I'm really glad to be able to put some effort back into the community that I've really enjoyed for many years.

So, my point here, although well hidden, is that if you try hard enough you'll all find a place to fill... And if nothing else, try to say a big 'Thank you' to those that really deserve it, the people that takes the digitalization a step further, you do of course know them all by name ;)

You're a real gent Swede :D

The Doom9 forum is really quite addictive and I didn't realize how much so until it disappeared :(

I guess I was not alone, clicking on my Doom9 Forum 'sign-in' icon, every couple of hours or so... in the feint hope that the forum would burst back into life... and was really pleased when it finally did :D

My thanks goes to everybody involved in making this forum so fascinating and informative...

Cheers

Yeah this one was yet another place that I could hang out. Luckily I had just gotten doom3 when the forums crashed, so I didn't miss it too much. ;)

"Hey Swede!"

Now you have total control of the forum... how about adding some more sections :D

A "Fun and Games" section might be refreshing :D

Other idea's anybody?

well, I still get to decide if we open new sections ;)
I'd like to keep this a serious place, if you want to just hang out and have fun, that's what real-time environments like IRC are for.. and it just so happens that we have an IRC channel...
