I think it is DShow atleast. Not good with that side of things, but, i have this bug that occurs every so often, 50% of the time. It makes avi's (of all sorts) look like this: http://www.thebob.co.uk/miles/cause.jpg

it is really weird, the colour is all off... windows also crashes a lot when doing avi preview of the file... media player classic crashes also when doing various things, it did when i took this screenshot. i use windows 2000... this is decoded with ffdshow 7th June. it does this with other codecs too (different decoders), like XVID 1. i am sure this has been answered, but I am not sure what to search for. I also swear I asked this question a while ago, i cant remember.

Broken decoder / video card?

Does that mean that on opening the *same file* several times, it's sometimes OK, and sometimes buggy?

How does it look when you open the file in VirtualDub(Mod)? Always OK? Always buggy? Depending on luck?

If it looks always okay - check "Options/enable direct draw overlay" (or similar, denomination depends on VDMod version). How does it look then?

When opened in VdubMod: what is reported under "File/File information" for "FourCC code" and "decompressor"?

What's your CPU? Perhaps you're accidentially using an SSE2 build of ffdshow on an Athlon, and something goes goofy by that?

No, it does it on two computers of mine, both GeForce 4 Ti4200 (Leadtek 1 is an A250LE the other an A280LE).

It is really getting annoying, i think it could be due to sharing of the overlay, when i have expolrer open and click a file, it previews it, then when i load it it is all dodgy. If i close all explorer windows and use the run command "F:\movie.avi" it seems to work...
