Hello,
I'm trying my hand at producing a decent AVI, either divx or xvid.
What are the popular tools to use to do the avi encoding?
I'm familiar with virtualdub and vdubmod.

If the goal is to produce a file of a given size (eg. to fit on a CD)
do any tools have the calculator built in, or is there some other tool recommended?

I have source vob, d2v and wav audio.

Thanks,
Dave

Once you get the bitrate it should fit on 700Mb.

The most popular encoders for DivX and XviD by forum members are Gordian Knot, and the newer Auto Gordian Knot. These encoding suites include bitrate calculators, handle audio tracks and overheads, and do multiple pass encodings (with VdubMod) for a specific file size.

You can find out more by going to the Gordian Knot forum here, and/or using Doom9's step-by-step guides.
