Hi all,

I had this problem last week and I thought it was a faulty S-Video cable, so I used another one, with no change :(

I'm capturing with a Dazzle DVC90 from a S-VHS Videorecorder, playing my old S-VHS tapes, connecting through a S-Video DIN connector for video, 2 x RCA cables for audio.

The color showed correctly and I could capture for about 45' without problems, PC resources were also ok as I could capture at PAL-DV format (with the Pinnacle DV codec) without losing a single frame and with the CPU at quite low usage/temp. It's a 2.6GHz P4 with 1GB of RAM at FSB800.

After those 45' of capture, the input went to black and white :( The VCR was actually still outputting with color, but the video on the PC was B&W. I stopped the VCR, closed Pinnacle Studio 9, removed the DVC90 from the USB 2.0 port and re-plugged it in: the color was back. But it lasted for just 10 minutes more, then again B&W.

I had to complete a 1h45' capture and I repeated the unplug/plug sequence 3 or 4 times before reaching the end of the job.

Closing sutdio and re-starting it doesn't solve the issue, I have to unplug the DVC90 and re-plug it in. I also tried to reboot, but again it lasted for 15-20' before having B&W again.

Any hint?

I posted at the Pinnacle board but the question has still to show up after 36 hours

You may be better served with a cheap tv tuner card. I don't know of anyone that's had great results with that device.

I'm not sure it's doing the same job.

I don't need to capture from TV, I'm using the DVC90 for converting old VHS tapes into DVD format.

Also, cheap TV tuners don't support 720x576 capture (PAL-DVD), at least not the ones I've seen in my PC-shop

I'm doing my old tapes (and some TV) as well. My cheap wintv card will do 720x480. I've never tried 720x576 (I'm NTSC). I think the driver may have a lot to do with capture resolutions. My card advertised a lot less than what I capture at. I use the driver at BTwincap.sourceforge.net

Oh, by the way, for the ones who were interested in the problem:

It was a faulty DVC90 unit, that has been replaced by the repair service. I just got a new unit at home.
