there is a way to do a full backup of a DVD-9 -> DVD-5 using ProCoder 2.0 instead of CCE and keeping menus and extra ?
I could use the option Prepare in DVD-rb to generate the .avs and use them into ProCoder 2.0, but what I do after that ? I'll obtain a .mpv and .mpa for all .avs
or I continue with that ?

If you dont mind my asking... Whats wrong with CCE? It is a phenomenal encoder. One of the best out there.
EDIT: To answer your question though. I suppose you could load the .avs into procorder one at a time and get a .m2v for every segment. Then you could join all the .m2v's and plug that into a authoring program? Dont know if that would work or not. Though im pretty sure it wouldnt.

ProCoder is amazing for converting PAL source to NTSC. Just have to open the source and set the target NTSC and bingo.. it's done.
and the quality is also amazing in 2 pass VBR..that's why I want to use it for dvd backup. If i'm not able I will have to use CCE, but It fun to be able to compare. The software evoluate, so the quality too.

You probably could, if you got the settings right (but I don't know exactly what they would be for Procoder, and I hate setting up jobs in procoder, it seems so much more difficult than it has to be), but I seriously doubt you could do any PAL->NTSC or vice versa conversion. Video is only half the problem, because the new video would be out of sync with the audio, and there is no way to fix that with DVD-RB (even if you could do it I doubt DVD-RB could rebuild such a disc because the new assets wouldn't match the structure of the original).

actually procoder does an amazing job of converting PAL to NTSC with audio in sync.i have done 3 conversions of late that are perfect.
how it does it i do not know but this is the best one for this, only thing is procoder 2 is still slow but i get what i want in the end.

There are only 2 ways to convert PAL(25fps)<--> NTSC(24fps):
1. Change the number of frames and the framerate. This keeps the play time the same, thus the original audio stays in sync. This involves some sort of blended field method where a frame is dropped or duplicated. This will result in jerky motion or ugly blended images (where two images are composited into one frame). I doubt Procoder uses this method.
2. Keep the number of frames the same, just change the framerate. This method gives the best image quality, but changes the playtime of the video. To fix it you have to resample and stretch/compress the audio so it syncs back up with the video. This can result in a pitch change unless that is also adjusted.
I have no doubt that Procoder can do method 2 IF you give it the audio and video to convert and re-encode. However, DVD-RB does not re-encode the audio. It copies it directly from the original source (VOB files) and muxes it with the re-encoded video on rebuild. The audio isn't even demuxed, let alone sent to the encoder, so there is no opportunity to correct it.

HiYa Wmansir
Your points are taken onboard.
However......
Would't it be good if RB COULD encode from PAL to NTSC and back !
I know it wont happen but it sure streches the mind to even consider such a possability. If could be done there would be no other on planet earth to do this in the context of what RB is and is used for.
Heck i'd pay hansomely for such an app.
Maybe a job for Jdobbs when he takes his laptop on holidays ?.... On second thoughts maybe not......but you know the saying "once a mans mind is stretched to a new diminsion it never returns to its original size" cant remeber who quoted that little pearl of wisdom....

I believe you meant this:
"A mind that is stretched to a new idea
never returns to its original dimension."
- Oliver Wendell Holmes
But you did good for pulling it off the top of your head, I actually had to go Google that one because it was so familiar.

I'd like to see support for Procoder 2.
I would prolly use CCE primarily, but it would be excellent to use Procoder 2, in case problems arise when using CCE. I would much prefer to use Procoder, as a secondary option rather than quenc or rejig.

I also think that having Pro Coder support in DVD-RB would be great.
Most people who have compared this piece of software to CCE agree that it has its advantages in encoding interlaced material such as music videos or tv series. So from that point of view Pro Coder should be worth a try.
I think the main difficulty would be to properly pass the parameters from DVD-RB to Pro Coder. The web site only mentions a "job queuing manager with priority functions". Does anybody know if it has a CLI mode or batch processing capabilities? If yes, it should at least in principle be possible to integrate it into DVD-RB.
