View Full Version : AutoGK and the case of the non-appearing subs

So. I have Ichi the Killer (Anime version). I want to back him up.
Yes, I'm happy with having encoded it to English dub no subs (That's how I prefer my anime), but I also had planned to play with the subtitle options in AutoGK.
Problem is, they won't play back.
Now, I'll admit I don't know that much about DVDDecrypter, so it could've happened there. But when I point AGK to the rip folder, it gives me the choice for a pair of English subtitles. I've tried both, both have not appeared.
Yes, I've read the FAQ. No, I'm not too sure on what it means... The old grey matter is a bit confuzzled.
Also, would it help if I didn't get that annoying "WinRAR not found" lognote all the time?
One last little thing. The "Display only forced subtitles", what exactly does it mean?
Thanky in advance

Hello, and welcome to the forum-
Forced subs are cases when the subs for, for example, the Elvish in the LOTR movies, or the Alien talk in the Star Wars movies, are contained within a larger set of subs for the entire movie. So, if the movie is in English, and you don't want all the English subs, but only the Elvish parts, then you set it for Forced Subs. Almost certainly, for your Ichi The Killer anime, you do NOT check the Forced Subs box. There's more explanation about this difficult subject in the AutoGK guide.
As long as you didn't enable Stream Processing in DVD Decrypter, you should be OK. The subs are still contained in the vobs.

Thanks for that :)
I had an inkling that that was the case, since it just seems logical (eg Watching a random anime in English, but subs pop up to translate things written in a different language). Just had to clear it up.
I know for sure that I didn't enable stream processing. Not the slightest. But the subs still don't get included in the encoded product.
7 differently encoded files will back me up on that testimony :p
It's a bit of a golly golly gosh situation. Plus, it would've been nice if it'd worked, since there are a couple of forced subs in Ichi.
Extra side note. Is it normal for the preview to come out b&w, upside down, a pair of general images one on top of the other, and sliced vertically and mixed around?

Hi-
No, it's not normal for the preview to come out b&w....
Are you saying that the Preview is screwed up, but the encoded .avi is OK? If so, there's something strange going on.
I'm not real sure I understand your problem. Did you say that you use the English audio, but you want the Forced Subs only for the translations of signs and such?
OK, maybe they're not Forced Subs at all. Maybe they have their own sub stream. You said there are 2 different English language sub streams on the DVD, right? If so, then perhaps you want the second stream, but WITHOUT checking the Forced Subs box. If I'm correct, then that second English sub stream contains just the translations for the Japanese writing. So get that one, and if the Preview isn't working for you, there's another way to check what you have. Open the .idx file in Resynch. It comes with VobSub. Or you can accesss it in the Subtitle Tab of GKnot. Then, when you highlight a line, it'll show you what it says, and you can soon tell if it's what you want. In addition, the file size of the subs with the translations will be small, relative to the set of subs that contain the subs for the whole movie.

When you create external subs you get a .idx and a .rar file. The rar file contains the compressed .sub file.
For one of my movies the rar is 590kb, but uncomprseed the .sub file is 3 MB so the compression really pays off.
I use BSPlayer and the subs automatically load as long as the idx and rar files have the same name as the avi.

I also have the same problem as LordBug
I want to encode my Evangelion DVD to divx, but from episode 1 to episode 4 of Evangelion's first disc the result was only first episode that has subtitle appear, episode 2 to 4 the subtitle are not appear any more. This also happend to second disc of Evangelion, only episode 5 that the subtitle appear, the rest are not appearing again.
I also sure that i did not enable the stream processing in DVDDecrypter.

Hello and welcome to the forum-
For the NGE DVDs you have to adjust the subtitle delay for each episode after the first one by the total length of the episodes that preceeded it. This is a little bit tricky to do within AutoGK. Using GKnot might be a better bet.
