Convert .sub & .idx to .sup?

Can anyone tell me the best way to do this as most subs downloaded with avi's are in the .sub & .idx format and i want to use ifoedit for authoring. I did try extracting the subs originally to bitmaps with subrip and then muxed audio, video and subtitles with DVDmaestro but the subtitles started out ok but then gradually ran out of sync. Any help would be greatly appreciated as to which is the best method to do this.

There's a tool called subtosup :D ... get it from doom9's dl section. You will have to fix sync issues yourself, though. Subresync (vobsub package) is quite helpful.

Discussion about downloaded copyrighted material isn't really welcome here, btw.
