Hello, and welcome to the forum.

It looks like you are not following any of Doom9's guides. I recommend, strongly, that you follow either his DivX or his Xvid guide for Gordian Knot.

Why?

Well, in your step two, you're using DVD2AVI to create an .avi file. GKnot users don't do that. Instead, we use DVD2AVI (or, with modern versions of GKnot, DGIndex) to create a .d2v project file, which is used as input to Gordian Knot.

And we typically use Gknot to mux audio and video together automatically. These days, that's using VdubMod, rather than Nandub. Nandub is most often used for Divx 3.11 alpha encoding.

1) Get yourself a modern version of Gordian Knot. http://sourceforge.net/projects/gordianknot/

2) Use the guides. Click here (http://www.doom9.org/divx-encoding.htm) to get started.

3) If GKnot is too complicated or confusing, try Auto Gordian Knot. www.autogk.net

By searching the Gordian Knot forum for "failed to get data" I found this post from len0x that may be helpful:

As was pointed out - XviD installer deletes registry settings on install, so if you never went into XviD default settings (and deleted previous GK defaults on install) then codec obviously cannot get registry settings... If I understand it correctly -- and there's no guarantee that I do -- you need to set your XviD default settings before GKnot can use XviD.

Your second problem is likely related to your first -- the XviD codec settings weren't properly set.
