View Full Version : Correct VTS Sectors Ifoedit or Ifoupdate

I've done many backsup of dvds all using the old big three + scenarist and CCE. Some of the dvds I've backed up contain .vob files that are 0kb in size. This has caused an interesting problem each time that I'd like to put to rest in this thread as I haven't found too many coherent responses to this issue in other threads.

As per the last step of the guide, after I've updated my .ifos using ifoupdate, I always open my video_ts.ifo in ifoedit, make the disk region free, remove p-uops, save the file, exit, reopen ifoedit and then open the video_ts.ifo to the last .ifo in order and click "correct vts sectors"

However, if my dvd contains vobs that are 0kb in size, ifoedit supposedly corrects some sectors. Then if I put this compilation into nero, nero says that dvd file reallocation failed, do you want to continue burning anyways?

Everytime I've ever used the above guide and clicked "Correct vts sectors" as the last step, it has NEVER changed any of the vts sectors (as long as the .vobs are 0kb or greater) so I assume that ifoupdate when I run it must be correcting the vts sectors or it is updating perfectly.

Should I simply run the ifoupdate step of the guide and skip the last ifoedit step to "correct vts sectors" as it seems that ifoupdate is doing it somehow?

While I can tell nero to ignore the errors created by "correct vts sectors" in ifoedit (when 0kb vobs exist), the disk is sometimes unplayable on different players (luckily not on mine).

Thanks.

I know how to "correct vts sectors" in ifoedit. How do I do so in ifoupdate? I see the button for "correct vts sectors" but i'm unsure how you tell ifoupdate to load up all the .ifos in order or look at the folder with the .ifos (again this is probably a n00b question).

I really do not believe any player has problems with 0 KB menus (VTS_XX_0.VOB). In fact, there are many original DVDs with these 0 KB menu files. IMO, Nero advice is excesive, but not sure what the DVD-standard says.

In any case, to avoid this Nero advice (and be able to see if there are other errors) I usually delete the 0KB menus and, after that, adjust VTS sectors with IFOEDIT. No more advices from Nero and the DVD plays OK.

The pointer which is adjusted by IFOEdit is the one stored in 0x00C0 (menu pointer), which is "0" if no menu exists and non cero if a 0KB menu exists.

Simply delete then 0kb files and then the Get VTS sectors with ifoedit and ifoupdate gives the same results, and the dvd plays fine.
