I think the title says it all - I want to capture something from my TV card and encode it on-the-fly to mpeg-2.

The problem is: I don't have a high-end system, only 1800MHz. I can't save the full movie (2 hours for example) uncompressed as I can only use 10GB of disc space.

I started reading the capturing guide, but there isn't a solution for my problem either.

Isn't there any tool supporting on-the-fly encoding with caching the frames and give them to CCE so that none of them are lost? I can't understand why … |:

My advice, buy the SS2 DVB-s card /less then $100/.
Then undiscovered world of recording will be open to you.
as example;
up to 17 audio channels recorded simultaniously
up to 4 complete tv channels packages /video+audios+subtitles/ recorded at the same time
posibility to record all data from transponder /all audios,videos and data channels
records as mpeg, .ts, .pva, ...
and so on .....

I guess you already have a capture card, but it doesn't capture MPEG2.

If you are in the US, Fry's Electronics has the discontinued ATI 8500 AIW for $89.00 US Its an excellent card. Onboard encoder so it will work with your CPU.

One other thing that you might try is download the free Virtual VCR capture program and also download Leadtools' MJPEG demo encoder. You can get a very low data rate for your 10 gig drive. www.leadtools.com

It cost $9.95 to buy.
