Hello
I've been killing myself looking for a decent mpeg2 software to covert my vhs to dvd. I've tryed power vcr 2, win dvr, pinnacle studio 8 SE. If anybody can help me out. I'll greatly appreciated.

I don't think any of the real time software converters like PowerVCR will give you as good as a result as either TMPGENC or CCE. A lot of people are using one of those two.

Welcome to the forum. You'll find seven links to MPEG-2 encoders in Doom9's download section, including the two most popular that fmctm1sw mentioned: TMPGEnc and CCE.

venom10463,

you may want to try the MainConcept MPEG Encoder, which is one of the top level MPEG-1/2 encoders available. In contrast to the other big encoders it has a capture module (both analogue and DV), and you can play with many settings to improve quality. In my opinion it's the best choice for direct MPEG-2 captures.

If you have the time and the space on your hdd, then you'll achieve better quality by capturing to Huffyuv or MJPEG and filtering and encoding in a second step (as described in the capture guide).
