Which gives better results for anime, and which for movies. I kinda confused as i would think real 2 would be superior. ALso why do you use the dropdupe filter in real encodes? Also curious if ehq at high is good enough or should I raise it to 100.

Which one do I charge to 100 tho? Also which b-frames do i select for anime? http://img11.exs.cx/img11/82/therat.jpg

2-pass VBR has foresight and can make better rate control decisions than single pass constant quality which can yield the similar quality with less bitrate expendature. For example a 2-pass encode of the same size as the single pass quality encode should always be of a better quality.

thanx for the reply.

If you do low bitrate, you should use BFrames and noisy edge filter.

If you leave the new curve compression rate control with default settings, it will find the almost constant quality that is needed to reach your target bitrate/filesize. If you are not terribly concerned about a target bitrate/filesize, you could experiment until you find a constant quality you like, and use 1-pass constant quality instead.

The rate control however, allows for more advanced adjustments, where you can tell it to save bits or spend more bits on high or low motion scenes etc, as well as the use of external scaler tools, like the one D-C just released. (http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79661) Also keep in mind that the 1st pass runs about 3-5X as fast as the 2nd pass in EHQ mode, so not all that much extra time is needed for 2-ass vs 1-pass.

Sirber: Like I have mentioned a few times, the noisy edge filter is intended only for bad captures and crops when the edges of the video frame are either black or noisy. In most cases it should not be necessary to worry about this setting. Just leave at default. Just turn off whenever PSNR measurements are involved.

It works well on TV-rip (most anime) :D

if I want to use the curve scaler, What settings do I select just to make the first pass and then encode the second. As you have to do them seperately. What is the point exactly of the dscaler?

I am not sure myself, except what D-C explains in his thread. You should ask there if you are curious. D-C also plans to include this in his AutoRV10, which is probably the easiest way to use it. In most cases though, I think the normal and built-in scaling will work just fine.
