I've read the guides and I couldn't find an answer to this problem.
What I'm doing is ripping a concert from a dvd and in one of the Chapters there's an interview in a foreign language but with english subtitles which I want to permanently tie to the ripped avi. (with no extra files)
I'm ripping the dvd to vob files in DVD Decrypter, then in GK I'm creating a .d2v project with DVD2AVI.
Then I'm loading the project into GK.
Now in this case (in which I want to subtitles to be permanently tied to the avi) what I'm trying to do is: I go to the Subtitles label in GK, choosing Congifure, opening the *.inf file that DVD Decrypter put for me in the dir after I ripped this chapter.
Then in this screen i leave it as it is:

And this also as it is:
http://live.quizilla.com/user_images/F/foreverthefallen/1089907376_commande02.gif
Then I do Save & Encode in GK and In this screen I choose the *.idx file that VOBSUB created in the dir:
http://live.quizilla.com/user_images/F/foreverthefallen/1089902377_commande03.gif
When I play the avi file I see no subtitles.
Can anybody help me please?

Are you save your avi and subtitle files in same name and in same directory?
If not ,sub donnt display automaticly.

Still doesn't work.
I've read this guide: http://www.doom9.org/dvobsub.htm
but it doesn't do what I want.
I want the subtitles to be permanently tied to the avi so I won't need to carry extra files with the avi.

Here is a fast workaround:
Get subrip. Load the ifo file or the vobs on top left where it says vob.Press start.
You will be asked to identify some letters. When all is over, save the file you made (save as...subtitles.srt) It's all pretty simple, i'm sure you can figure it out.
Open the avs file(with notepad) you already made with GK, or make another fresh one if you prefer(don't worry about adding subs in the avs box). This will appear in your ripping folder when you hit save in the .avs GK box. Make sure the # is removed in front of load vsfilter.dll
replace the vobsub(filename) line by : Textsub("Path to\...\subtitles.srt"), and remove the # in front of it.
save the avs and right click it and open it with wmp2 for example, check your subs are showing where they should.
Go to add job and select your stuff as usual(make sure the avs you created is selected), the subs will be there :)

If you use the latest GK, here is a more aesthetic way to do this:
Go to options, select advanced avs window
prepare all your stuff in the first 2 tabs....go to the "filters" tab
at the right of the window there is a little + sign. go there in "choose filter"
Expand vsfilter, click on textsub, enter the path to the file in the yellow box
click ok, you can toggle with the up and down buttons to put the filter where you want in the script....
click preview and the movie will show automatically..if you're happy press save and encode
I know it sounds longer and harder, but it's kind of easier to actually do ;)

I have the latest GK but I didn't find what you wrote.
I went to the Options tab and unticked the "Hide Advanced Tabs" but then I didn't find any "Filters" tab.
The tabs I see are as follows: Ripping/Bitrate/Resolution/Nandub Files/Stats File Editor/Subtitles/File List Writer/Options/Program Pathes/Info/Encoder.
I tried the way in your first post.
I downloaded Subrip, I did as you said - creating a file "subtitles.srt" (when I open it with notepad I truly see the subtitles and the timings.
Then I went to GK Clicked on DVD2AVI to create .d2v file.
Then I opened the d2v file in GK and clicked on Save & Encode (without touching any option in GK tabs).
In the "save .avs" window I also didn't touch anything so that the "Select VobSub files" was unticked.
Then I saved the .avs files as test.avs and exited GK without creating an avi.
Then I opened the avs with notepad where I changed the line:
#LoadPlugin("C:\PROGRA~1\GORDIA~1\VSFilter.dll")
to:
LoadPlugin("C:\Program Files\GordianKnot\VSFilter.dll")
and the line:
#VobSub("FileName")
to:
Textsub("C:\Documents and Settings\Gal\Desktop\rip\subtitles.srt").
After all of this I opened test.avs with media player but still not subtitles were displayed.

Damn,I know it's something really obvious, and I can't figure it out :D
By the way ,it's "use save advanced avs window" not "advanced tabs".
You have the latest vobsub?
find vsfilter.dll, right click it, look in properties, general, it should have been modified on 8th march 2004. If you haven't got it, either clean reinstall vobsub from GK 0.32 pack, or go there (http://www.avisynth.org/warpenterprises/) and download textsub, extract the vsfilter.dll to replace the one you have.(if it says it's in use, just reboot first)
If you have another srt(or idx/sub, with the command vobsub("filename") instead of textsub("filename.srt")), try it in the avs instead to make sure no subs are displaying at all, and your subs are not to blame(don't look like they are, since you see the timings and text)

I had the one which was modified in 8th march 2004.
GK 0.32? The newest one I see in the downloads page is Gordian Knot rippack 0.28.8.
I don't see any "use save advanced avs window" in any of the tabs at Gordian Knot.

Ah, ok, you have the latest stable version(It doesn't have the advanced avs yet). Your vsfilter is the latest though, so it makes no difference..Try uninstalling and reinstalling vobsub anyway.(it's on its own in add/remove programs)
The very latest GK is 0.32, but it's a beta release, even though it works quite well.It has a few more features, but nothing that should make a difference to you for this problem.
