Does there exist a network media player that will play AVIs encoded with Xvid? Preferably with 802.11g capabilities.

What do you mean by N/W media player?
Are you talking about broadcasting/multicasting your videos, then VideoLan is a good choice.
Otherwise if you are concerned about bandwidth usage, then a n/w with bandwidth sligtly higher than the bitrate of file will be playable on any media player.

The Momitsu looks promising, as do many others until looking deeper. It does not support 802.11g so wireless ethernet bandwidth is too limited for full resolution video playback over the network. Also cannot determine if the unit will reliably play Xvid encoded avi's.
I have looked at many of these stand alone boxes, most without a dvd drive which I do not need, and none of them so far seem to do the whole job. Anyone have this Momitsu unit and care to comment?
The thread referenced above quickly degrades into a 'bits is bits' discussion wrt DD and PCM sound streams.....no real info on the Momitsu unit.

Just seen the Kiss DP-600 with 802.11g and and support for High Def Content on buy.com. Haven't got any info on the player nor have I heard of any reviews as of yet..

Momitsu does sounds pretty good but without support for 54g I suspect it might have problems with bandwidth trying to send Divx or Xvid. Hopefully we will see a 54g model soon, then I will be very happy :)

Dont bother with wireless devices yet, even the "g" implementation does have the constant bandwidth required to stream video. It needs to have a certain level of quality of service to have un-interupted playback.
new wireless protocols are being developed currently to solve this.
