watching DVD movies on comp ( kinda noob q :/ )

so when i try to watch the dvd on my comp windows media player says i need to lower resolution,colors bla... and that it was unable to open the movie :(

do i need some codecs/players to watch dvds or is it something wrong with my disc? ( the disc is not scrached or anything and on it are folders Video_ts and Audio_ts(which is empty))


plz if anyone can help me i would appreciate it very much.

I recommend getting another media player - I recommend Media Player Classic since it has built-in filters for decoding mpeg2. You can get it here:

You can play a DVD simply from File --> Open DVD...

I thought I saw some kind of a DVD directshow filter on Doom9's download section (seems to be gone though). It would allow DVD playback on directshow-capable mediaplayers like WMP.
