I have my VCR connected to my PVR-250 using s-video connection..... when i open Wintv 2000 and choose composite 2 + NTSC M, the picture is black and white.

I have spent nearly 6 hours trying to fiddle with diffrent setting and still have had no luck!!..... I have even tried using the s-video cable that came with my PVR-250 + a exspensive 1 that I bought to day and the picture is still BLACK AND WHITE.

I live on the uk so my format is PAL, but I have a multi region VHS player which plays NTCS format, I have pluged the VHS player in to my TV and the tape plays fine - regards to colour....

Any ideas or advice on wot I can do, I am realy realy stuck and fustrated on this 1.

thanks to any 1 who can help me out!!! realy do apreciate it !!!.

cheers jamie

wouldn't you choose PAL instead of NTSC, cause your VCR is outputing PAL?
and another thing, if you choose NTSC while using a PAL VCR, you'll get a black and white picture, I know that from experience. :)

Your VCR is outputting PAL-60. Most NTSC capable PAL players do that. PAL-60 is a hybrid with NTSC timing, but PAL color encoding. Hence the black and white picture when you select NTSC.

Most European TV's do understand PAl-60, so your TV has no problems with it.

Unfortunatly, only a few capture devices understand PAL-60.(to be more exact, the hardware almost always does, but the drivers don't enable it)

For example, a BT878 based Hauppauge card won't with the Hauppauge drivers, but when you replace those with the BTWincap drivers it will.

I do remember reading about a registry hack for the PVR enabling this. I think it was on the Hauppauge forum on the Benelux site.

Could you expand on what you mean here? Most VCR's output composite video and not the 4 pin S-Video style. Usually when you connect your VCR to your S-Video on your card you get at B & W picture, so you have to connect to your composite connection on your capture card.

Oops... missed that one. Bogalvator is perfectly right; if you have a normal VCR, it will not output s-video, even when using a SCART to s-video adapter. Only a true S-VHS VCR will.

(Which does not change the fact that most European VCR's will output PAL60 when playing back NTSC tapes.)
