I have tried to extract subs from Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl.
The idx has a strange format, i.e.:# English
id: en, index: 0
# Decomment next line to activate alternative name in DirectVobSub / Windows Media Player 6.x
# alt: English
# Vob/Cell ID: 3, 1 (PTS: 0)
timestamp: -02:16:49:560, filepos: 000008000
timestamp: -02:16:45:120, filepos: 00000c000
timestamp: -02:16:40:680, filepos: 000011000
timestamp: -02:16:36:880, filepos: 000014800
timestamp: -02:16:33:920, filepos: 000015800
timestamp: -02:16:30:400, filepos: 00001a800
timestamp: -02:16:25:000, filepos: 000020800When trying to play it with mpc, the ds filter obviously shows no subs.
How can I correct the idx?

I haven't experienced the phenomenon you described ... you might try changing the "offset" value in vobsub configure or try subresync on the idx/sub file to fix the times.
Perhaps somebody else would know how to avoid the problem in the first place?

Thank you for your kind reply.
I have fixed the problem looking into the DvdDecrypter generated txt file, setting the reported delay for the sub streams with Subresync.
I have done it for every sub stream in the idx file and there we go. :D

have u use vsrip or vobsub.dll to extract the .idx/.sub file ?
i have already experience this problem but only with vobsub.dll now apparently vsrip can avoid this problem.

I use Vobsub, Vsrip gives me a corrupted file error.

ok, i'm trying to do the exact same thing, kill bill2 - but same problem...
i see the "delay" in the stream info.txt file from DVD-Decrypter...so i have that value...
my question is: how do i fix this in either Subresync and/or VobSub-Configure???
listed below are my attempts to fix this with both VobSub-Configure and Resync...
VobSub-Configure:
i put the delay in after the rip in VobSub-Configure and clicked OK...i noticed an entry in the .idx file referencing the delay time...so, i can see the relevance there
i then opened the .idx file in Resync and the "weird" times were still there...
do i just take it on faith that all is well??? and go with my backup???
or, is that a sign that something is still wrong???
Resync:
i open the .idx file i created w/out adding a time offset value...get the "weird" time listings, as expected...
i clicked on the "reset timing" button and the "weird" times are still there...saved as new file...re-opened new file..."weird" times still there...
so, i'm not sure what i'm missing...i've looked for the past week in this forum; and, this thread is as close to my problem as i've found...
can somebody please clarify what step(s) i seem to be missing??? or, again, do i just leave the time offset value in the .idx file and take a leap of faith???
i'm going to take the leap this evening when i finally crash (4 hrs or so from now); and, just see what happens; but, since this will be my 5th attempt on this particular backup i figured i'd "ask for directions"..
will report back tomorrow on the leap o'faith...not confident...
thank you

ps...if, during my research, i've missed a thread that solves this, i do appologize for wasting everybody's time...if there is a thread that solves this i would appreciate it if somebody could provide me with that thread...

yeah, there are a few, but it's hard to find :)
I quote myself from another thread, because I'm lazy:
load the idx in subresync again....... click sort of twice lazily on the first subtitle, (I mean "sort of" twice, you'll see what I mean, it's touchy ), until you get a highlighted box, like when you rename in explorer...add 21 seconds to that 1st subtitle. You will see all the timestamps shifting in the right column. Make sure they're all OK, and then click "save as" something.
change the timings to suit of course

first, last night's job failed to produce the subs when/where i wanted...as expected...so far so good...i think...
second, thank you for your reply, niamh...helped greatly...the situation in your reply was a little different from what i had (like you said, previous thread...), but your comments did point me in the right direction...
i'll explain what i did:
i loaded the .idx file into Resync (VTS_01_0.idx in this case)...the first "timestamp" reads as "-01:29:44.386"...
i put the time of the first subtitle into the first timestamp "slot" in Resync, in this case: 00:47:11.663, which i figured out as so:
( 02:16:56.049) exact length of flick as taken from VirtualDub-Mod, minus the first time-remaining timestamp from the original .idx file in Resync,
( 01:29:44.386...that comes out to
( 00:47:11.663) then, add the first time-remaining timestamp value from the original .idx file...VTS_01_0.idx in this case...
( 01:29:44.386)...equals....
( 02:16:56.049)...
woohoo!!!
looks like it works, in theory...of course, everything works perfectly, "in theory"...but reality is SNAFU...
well, it'll be 2-3 hours before i launch this next test...i will report back tomorrow with results...
i'm more confident today vs yesterday because,"I got an angle..." (heavymetal)...

ps...i am going to remove the time offset function from the .idx on this next run...(time offset: 0)

Success!
the subs appear where they should...
thanks, again, niamh, for your help...
