View Full Version : emu10k1f.sys

My computer seems to want to crash whenever I play any 5-channel AVI. The file that crashes is almost always emu10k1f.sys.

This has been going on for close to 2 years, I think through reinstalls even (it's been awhile).

I have tried soooo many different versions of emu10k1f.sys, and of AC3Filter. It seems my computer hates me and doesn't want me to listen to any 5-channel dvd rips.

I have an Athlon 900mHz with 768M ram, SBLive Platinum 5.1 with LiveDrive, 360GB storage, ATI Radeon 8500DV (tv out), Hauppage (tv in), latest divx, xvid, autoGK, etc.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

What happens with other containers (such as Matroska and OGM) with 5-channel audio?

You could try using the kX Project drivers (http://kxproject.lugosoft.com/index.php?skip=1) for your Live if you aren't already using them.

I've never experienced those other formats. Are those drivers SBLive Platinum 5.1 (with LiveDrive) specific?? Or rather, what are those drivers?

Thanks.

Drivers for Creative's Live! and Audigy/Audigy2 sound cards that don't have all the bloat Creative ships with their drivers and actually work... :)

(You might not need all of the kX driver's features if you don't actually produce audio with your PC, but they're much more configurable than the Creative ones - and they're freeware.)

Perhaps use VirtualDubMod, open your AVI file, and save to an MKV or OGM file?

Thanks guys, this sounds like a good direction. I hadn't heard of those drivers despite doing my best to stay on top of things without having to actually ask for help. :)

One thing -- I use this computer for a lot of media work. I record analog tv shows with virtualdub using HuffYUV codec. I encode using Xvid (AutoGK latest unfortunately, I prefer the 2001ish Koepi!) and mp3. I also use Lame to encode various wav files (cd rips) to mp3. This computer is also my 24-hour music and tv server so it's imperitive that I have no downtime.

Where am I going with all this? I am wondering if you think messing with those drivers will screw up any of my other processes. :) I plan on trying them out later this week, probably this weekend.

I'm also going to try that VirtualdubMod-OGM suggestion to see if that helps.

Thanks guys! Now I just need to find out why new xvid sucks so much for analog animation... but that's another issue altogether :)

Okay, I remember why those KX drivers are bad. I record from my front optical digital SPDIF input on the front LiveDrive part of my SBLive Platinum. My input does not exist as a selectable input to record from unless I use the original drivers that came with the card. (In newer versions, they've introduced a bug where it becomes deselected...)

So those drivers are no good as I cannot record sound with them. After I downloaded it and checked it out, I checked vs my old downloads and had actually tried this in the past... :)

So back to the drawing board...

I think I should just buy a non-creative card. Can anyone suggest a good soundcard that has RCA outputs, RCA *inputs*, and an optical digital input *and* output as well?

Maybe this thread can help?

"according to our users' reports some cards / models cannot access 'spdif optical in' via the 'optical' slider of the kx mixer, but use 'coaxial' slider instead."
