Just bought Godfather 2 which is on 2 disk's. Disk 1 = 2 hour 1 min, Disk 2 = 1 hour and 10 min. I want to rip it using AutoGK.

I tried joining the Vobs from the 2 DVD's using IFO-EDIT and VOB-EDIT, DVD-SHRINK and NERO RECODE 2 see this thread http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79372.
But it just wouldn't work. Perhaps because of the final size. Which is about 11,7 GB.

My question now is. How do I encode this movie and maintain constant quality ?
Would like to make it 4 CD with the same quality.

Thanx in advance :-)

I have done this successfully using several different methods with 2-disc sets. The easiest method, by far, is using VOBEdit's "Join Clip" function. A more complex method that I've also used is with AviSynth, but that requires demuxing separate audio tracks, converting them to Linear PCM, then re-muxing them within AviSynth, and demuxing the sound once more. VOBEdit uses more disk space, of course, but if the disk space is available it's a vastly preferred method, because it's so much easier to use for this purpose.

The PGCs on each disk must be checked for added transition video at the start and end, of course. These "continued on disc 2" sections are often included, but in the sets I've done this with, they were all on chapter boundaries and were easily excluded with DVD Decrypter.

Uhm...... easy... you want constant quality... encode both discs with constant quantizer.
Use Vdubmod to join the files ... then use Vdubmod to resplit in how many segments you want...

Thanx for reply guys.

@jggimi
Tried VOB-EDIT, PGC-EDIT, Nero Recode and DVDShrink that didn't work: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=79372&perpage=20&pagenumber=1

@Sharktooth
Yes that would be an option. But I would like the Encoder to make decissions as to how it's best encoded :-)

I figured it out. Some guy told me to just queue up all the vobs in DGIndex in Gknot and that worked like a charm :-)

I just spend the last week 24/7 figuring out how to use it :-(
Now I only have to figure out which Xvid setting should be used for best result and that is really hard to get an answer to :-(

...Some guy told me to just queue up all the vobs in DGIndex in Gknot... You will likely find you have desyncronized audio using this method. Each VOB set will probably have a different audio delay, and the lengths of the video vs. audio will also be a factor.

I'm not that wise on DVD-ripping and encoding yet. But it worked like a charm. Audio perfectly in synch. Encoded the Audio manually using Besweet and the length matched the merged movie length to the second ;)

I'm glad that it worked well. You are, I think, quite lucky. Your second VOB set must have had a 0ms delay, which was fortunate.
