Hiyas,
Im a long time user or GK 0.28.5 since the comination of the apps it came with seemed most stable. I just upgraded to 0.31.0 alpha. I still get the same problem in it i got with all other versions after 0.28.5. With some movies the encoding simply stops or freezes. With different movies it happens in different places, sometimes in the first pass, sometimes in the second, and sometimes even during muxing. In the last one i could see in the log of VirtualDubMod Status window that:
Dub: Processing thread has not cycled for ten seconds -- possible livelock. (Thread location 7FFE0304)
Any ideas what is causing it? And what would be a solution if there is any?
Im on winXP, dual AMD MP machine if thats of any help at all.
Thanx

virtualdubmod 1.5.10.1 is causing that. If you look in the info of GK you'll see:
"-- Updated tools in the rippack: DVD2AVI, VDubMod, Besweet." from 0.28.6 onwards
here is a thread where they discuss it: http://forum.doom9.org/showthread.php?s=&threadid=62774&highlight=livelock
If I were you for now I would put virtualdubmod 1.5.4.1 in place of 1.5.10.1 in the GK folder (must still be available at sourceforge.net, and is in your older GK pack anyway), and your problems will disappear.Or install it in its own folder, and point GK to it, in the paths tab of course. There have been bugfixes for the latest vdub, but I'm not sure where it's at atm, I kinda lost track.
Besides there is nothing wrong with 1.5.4.1 :)

hmm... 1.5.4.1 stops too.. during muxing this time.
do you happen to know what version VirtualDubMod was packaged with GK 0.28.5 ? GK Info says only 1.5.x.x

not sure either.......at this stage you'd need to make sure you don't use too many resources, that can be a problem too..Does it lock forever or just for a bit (in that case it's just due to multitasking)? and do you never get locks with 0.28.5?
from that link I gave you:
I de-installed Gordian Knot and then reinstalled it along with VirtualDubMod 1.5.4. The first DVD worked fine. The second locked up just as before. I rebooted my pc, and then it worked fine. A bit tedious, but at least it's working
did you reboot? :p It's curious, because the livelock thing seems to be a problem of 1.5.10.1 only
Other than that,I'm stumped.

Well it worked this time. Reboot must have done it. I'll starts some more encodes, we'll see how they do.
Thanks for your help

Sigh... it was too soon to party... 1.5.4.1 froze anyway... the comp was not doing anything but encoding...so i dont think its a resource issue...
I installed 0.28.5 back. In case you are interested the VDubMod in it is 1.5.1.1a... I'll stick to it for now.

Are you overclocked? Are you overheating? Is too much being loaded on startup (Start->Run->MSCONFIG->Startup, and make sure no more is being loaded upon startup than necessary). But this sounds more like a hardware problem to me.
I use VDubMod 1.5.4.1.
