Hello,

I'm having the same problems with Nero 6 Ultra as I had with earlier versions of Nero (and Imgtool, which works with the Nero API). I have two DVD writers (a Sony DRU-500A --seen here-- and a Matsushita LD-311F). They both get the exact same error from time to time. A successful and unsuccessful burn look the same until line #27 when the _ERR and _ERROR elements appear and the burn turns sour. Any thoughts.

I'm using Fuji 4X DVD-R in this instance.

Many thanks for your thoughts.

Right after that burn failure, I attempted another burn and it was successful. I used the same media, same speed, same files, and the same process. Here are the same lines but from a successful burn.

The only important line there (in your first log) is this one:

2:06:01 PM #28 CDR -1194 File Writer.cpp, Line 304
PMA update failure

Search google for 'PMA update failure' and i'm sure you'll find more info as to what it means and why it happens.

To be honest, I tried that route. The answers are so varied and in contraposition so often.

It could be the firmware if not updated. Mine is the latest.

It could be this version of Nero. It happened with all versions on my system.

It could be cheap media. Mine's decent and it has happened with other good media.

It could be the drive failing. It happened when the Sony was brand new and it happens with both drives.

It could be due to an old ASPI layer. I have the latest and Nero uses its own anyway.

It can happen at the end of the burn, where disc integrity isn't that great. This happens at the beginning of the burn while starting to write the lead in.

So blasted frusrtating. I've tried to chase down as many answers as possible but still can't nail it down. I see quite a few others in this same boat, too.

Great job with DVD Decrypter, by the way. Love it, use it all the time...rock solid!

You could try uninstalling Nero, clean all resisted entries of Nero from the registry, then perform a complete new installation of Nero and try again.
