Hi,

I have a Plextor PX-708A model but I am not at all happy. Most of DVD-Rs I buy when I burn them they are unreadable. So I decided to buy a new one. I was thinking of the Pioneer DVR-A07XLA(8/10 at CDRlabs).I have also saw the Plextor PX-712A(10/10 at CDRlabs) but I don't want to have the same problems. What do you think? Do you have a suggestion?

Thanks,
MoonWalker

P.S If this is the wrong forum feel free to move it where it belongs..

I have that same model and I have zero problems with it. What is the media your using? What software do you use to burn with? Don't waste your money on another drive. It is a beautiful recorder.

I have tried Princo, MIGA and Maxell(recomended (http://www.plextor.be/technicalservices/technology/recmedia.asp?choice=Supported%20mediaa) from Plextor). I have bought 10 princos and only 2 were written correctly. They failed the verify step. All were DVD-R. What brands do you use? The software I use is Alcohol, Nero 5.5 and DVD-Decrypter for burning..

Killing Princo discs is correct behavior. It protects you from losing data later.
As to Maxell, I had a problem with exactly one 5-pack of Taiyo Yuden discs in a Maxell package. Those worked on a Pioneer A06, but only at 2x speed, so I guess that this 5-pack was b0rked.

BTW, I have just offered my plextor 708 on ebay. I'll replace it by an LG 4120 :)

Yes. I have got a 10pack Princo DVD-R's and only 2 were written corectly. The write proccess is always ok, but I always verify my DVD-R and they fail there. And a friend of mine got a 10pack and wrote them with a Emprex DVD-R and only one of the was readeable. I can't believe that there are such bad products in the market.

This (http://www.notam02.no/~hcholm/altlang/ht/English.html) explains some words which can be used to describe princo discs

After over a week, I'm liking the drive more and more. 8x writing is pretty fast (http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/CDF/DVDSpeeds/lg_8x_brennen.gif), and when using Verbatim 8x DVD-R media, the read curve is nice as well (http://www-user.tu-chemnitz.de/~noe/CDF/DVDSpeeds/Toshi1712Rd/Mitsubishi_8x_-R/read_LG_w8.gif).

Using DVD-RAM with LG's drivers in udf, and knowing the xcopy /m /y /r switches, makes incremental backups really easy. If I just could find a 5x speed dvd-ram disc :o
