Ok. I've got a Dell Latitude D400 with the 4x DVD+/-R burner (USB 2.0 connection). I burned a few DVD+Rs on my old computer before I changed over to my laptop and had no problems other than the fact that I needed to uncheck "finalize" in Nero.

Anyway, my laptop recognizes these written DVD+Rs every time I put them in the drive. However, the drive won't read the empty DVD+Rs that I have left over (exact same media). What's the deal? I thought that if a drive could read a written disc, it could read an empty one from the same manufacturer.

I've tried updating the firmware (I could only find firmware for the USB 2.0 connector, not the DVD+/-R), but it still won't read the blank media.

I'd really not like to throw out ~15 blank discs that haven't given me problems yet, but if they don't work, they don't work. It'd be nice to know, however, if this is a hardware problem or if it has something to do with the media. Anyway, any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I wonder what you are trying to achieve from reading a BLANK DVD ...
There is no useful reason for this in my opinion.
