Hello D9:
As you can see from the username I chose I am in the infancy stage of my dvd burning career. I have found your forums and guides to be most helpful (in fact, the only help I've had)in getting me started.
I have read all the guides (excelent work, foolproof even for a novice like me) and read all the threads I could find in the newby and more advance forums (your search feature is great) and have not found anyone with the same problem so I figured it's me who is doing something wrong. So I have joined d9 in the hopes that someone in this elite group of experts can mercifuly tell me what the hell I'm doing wrong. Having said that, and having kissed enough a--!! I will explain my problem. (is a--kissing allowed to get a quick reply? I didn't see anything against it in the rules (joke)) but first I want to apologize for the length of this post since I wanted to give some background info and promise in the future they will be briefer and to the point.

After reading the DVD9 > 2DVD5 guide I used DVDDecrypter (excelent program, thanks) which I downloaded from your site to rip the DVD to my hard drive in file mode leaving all the default setting unchanged. I then used DVDFab (another great program)to split it to 2 files. I used the freeware that I also downloaded thru your site (thank you). It created the two files, Disk 1 and 2, just like it's suppossed to. I can open the video ts folder of Disk 1 in my Nero showtime player and it plays 100% fine, menues, extras, first part of the movie, everything is in synch. But when I try Disk 2 the player just hangs, nothing, nada, zilch. I read some people had to skip the first chapters to get it to play but I can't even do that.
I downloaded the trial version from their website which is the latest version and the same thing happens. I have tried 4 movies and the results are the same: Disk 1=great, Disk 2=??
My system is intel motherboard with P4 2.53mz533fsb proc.,WD160G HD, LiteOn Dvdrom, NEC NC2500a burner, Nero Ultra Edition.
Can you help me? Thanks

Welcome to the forum:

I've read of this problem occurring with versions of DVDFab other than v0.17.0, but if you downloaded it through Doom9's download page, this is the version you've installed. I've never used it and can't help you other than to suggest using the search button.

If you can live with trading some compression for burning to a single disc, try using DVDShrink. It's easy to use and is supported by several fine guides.

Doom9's DVD Shrink Guide (http://www.doom9.org/mpg/dvdshrink31-main.htm)
DVDShrink Website (http://www.dvdshrink.info/index.php)

Install Shrink, click on the "Open Files" button, navigate to where you've stored your decrypted files, and you're off and runnin'! Good luck!

Thanks ammck55 for your quick reply and suggestions.

I guess Fengtao will deal with all those Disc 2 bugs eventually. I just liked the ease of use for splitting entire DVD without loss and the changegraphic feature.

I have been reading the dvdshrink guides for some time and as you suggested it's time to take it for a test drive. I have been using Nero Recode when I wanted to keep menus and extras and separating the main title to another disc and has worked fine for me. It's funny how much their interphase resembles dvdshrink's.

Thanks for the link to dvdshrink.info- What an awsome site!!! (newbies like me: TAKE NOTE: if you are into ripping, splitting, authoring, re-authoring, and making coasters like me you've got to check out these onscreen tutorials READ them and FOLLOW them!!!)
Skimming thru some of their guides I found you can split dvd's by using the start/end feature and they even have changegraphics like DVDFAB. Who needs DVDXCOPY anyway?

I'm going back there and read their guides throroughly and try it. It's always good to have other options.

Thanks again, you guys are the best.

It's impossible to tell how much experience a first time poster has under his belt, but after reading your second post, it's obvious that you've been in the driver's seat for a number of encodes. Still, I'm glad you found the links helpful. DVDShrink is a wonderful tool and has performed flawlessly for me, although I've barely scratched the surface of its true capabilities.

You can receive support on Shrink issues at the One Click DVD Backup Solutions Forum (http://forum.doom9.org/forumdisplay.php?s=&forumid=65), as well as here in Newbies.

Happy ripping, encoding, and....Shrinking! :)
